Jj did his best to fix TLJ - enjoyed the spectacle for sure. There too many “really???” Moments. Vince Gillian of breaking bad says a bad script has coincidences the help the main characters- this movie is one after the other. Loved the score - amazing. My expectations were so low that I enjoyed it more than I though. My 12 year old loved it - guess that’s target audience.

Do you mean a storyline that is "choppy"?

I had a good experience and enjoyed the hell out of it. I'd give it 7.5 or 8/10. Felt like JJ crammed what should have been episode 8 and 9 into this. I ate every bit of fan service they fed me. I think real fans of the series will definitely enjoy this. Critics don't know shite, as fan scores on this compared to TLJ will show.

That's why I think this movie won't age well. The higher reviews are based off of a reactionary fan service approach with people coming into it with low expectations.

Overtime that kinda stuff fades away and people can more objectively state if a movie is truly good on its own technical merits.

Historically movies like this fall 2 points over time so if you are saying its an 8 now, given the context...its probably really a 6.

I agree. If you're a star wars fan, you'll enjoy it. I could understand why a critic may not rate it well because of the way everything unfolds, and the ending bothered me a little bit. But the fan service was great. It's definitely better than the last jedi. I'd put it in the same class as TFA and ROTS.

That is one of the reasons why Holdo was such a stupid character.

They played her off as some great leader, but the only reason anyone would know that is if you read the books.

Based just on the movie, Holdo had an IQ of 50.

Why all this hate for Holdo? She’s the only one in TLJ who’s Hero’s Journey went full circle. She went from pompous arse to dead.

Went to see it last night.

*****************

JJ Abrams must really hate TLJ because he decided to just do his own take on Episode 8 before getting Episode 9 going.

I’ve decided that the problem with these movies is that they are being made by committee. The original trilogy was really just Lucas, with some solid directors in the chair. I feel the prequels were Lucas, plus additional executives that applied pressure on him, as well as he had lost his edge.

Now, it’s just a corporate clusterfrick. Bless Abrams for trying. TFA is a pretty good SW movie, but then Disney execs wrestled control away from him, completely fricked it up, and then begged him to come back ... only to then take final decision making away from him. I don’t hate these movies - the hate flamed out after AOTC - but I find that I just don’t care about them.

I enjoyed seeing a sci-fi movie with my wife. That’s about all I can say, which ain’t bad.

I mean, if you’re a Star Wars fan and enjoy watching movies that invalidate the originals, I guess.

Yep. The first half of the movie is a jumbled mess. I think everyone agrees there. The middle has some really cool scenes, as does the end. Just like TFA, there is some cool stuff thru do. The problem is it disregards every established rule of Star Wars.

Is this legit, or is it like hyperspace and force healing?

Yes, it is legit. They expand on a lot of issues in TLJ that people had issues with (non story related).

The movie really does do everything it can to invalidate the OT and PT, and then rubs your nose in it.

So there's more Leia Poppins-type moments in this one? Or dropping bombs in space even though there's zero gravity?

No - but Luke, Vader, Yoda, Palpitine, Dooku, Obi wan, Maul, Qui-Gon Jinn, Mace Windu, Revan, Kyle Katarn and 1000 other Jedi/Sith have

But not a single one in history in the SW universe has ever casually rode horses outside in space.

Anymore ill thought-out comebacks?

Meh. They weren’t in space. That was the whole plan - get to the SDs before they left the planet’s atmosphere.
