Uh, we stole a ship and hyperdrived it here, how the frick did you get across the galaxy from the middle of the desert after being knocked out?

You think that was an important tid bit at that moment in the movie?

ETA: Don't forget that they crash landed back on Jakku. It's not a stretch to assume that he has connections on Jakku that were able to either (a) get him onto a ship or (b) make a call to his rebel buddies to come get his arse.

Before I start here I want to make it clear that I loved the movie. I would always love and support the movie. That being said the only real problem I have with the movie is I wish OT characters were in a better spot. I really would have liked to see them more triumphant coming off Episode 6. Luke and Leia in particular. They really seemed to be presented in really compromised positions in the new films. Really would have liked to see them riding high. I mean it kinda seems to trivialize the original trilogy for Luke and Leia to be presented how they were.

Uh... Poe personally started the chain reaction that destroyed the planet and could have EASILY killed Kylo Ren, and when he could have stolen the last piece of the map back after seeing BB-8 again and returning it to the First Order (when they already established that they had the rest of the map), he instead showed it to Leia and let Rey fly off to see him first.

As someone thays read EU stuff and is an invested fan I don't really understand the whole soldiers of Ren or whatever. Luke really should have been able to stomp problems like that out. Luke really should have been presented in a position of control and the new threat should have been presented as a more subtle type threat.

Sorry if this was covered but here is a great interview with JJ

LINK

He said he purposely started in a desert and ended in a trench. He said he felt strongly what old needed to be new again.

Carrie Fisher's amazing advice to Daisy Ridley: Don't frick the entire crew.

Really, just about any talk show host should want to have Carrie Fisher on their show annually. She's a great guest. Completely deranged, but great.

I agree with you to an extent...the fan boy side would love to see like just kicking everyone's arse and crazy force karate and crap...but there is no dramatic tension in that and you need dramatic tension to have a goo movie let alone a good trilogy.

I was saddened to learn Mark Hamill only had 1 minute of screen time but once I saw how it was revealed and what it set up going forward it was necessary and awesome. His reveal is iconic and will go down as maybe the 2nd greatest moment in star wars history

I got the sense no one took Kylo serious either. After his second big tantrum the Stormtroopers stop shake their heads and shrug like "here he goes again". Also, Han telling him to take off the mask as did Rey, and as you said Poe making fun of him. I think he resents Han because that's why he feels he isn't taken serious. He wants to be like Vader but can't. I'm sure something in VIII will lead to his more dark side.

I don't really get how Kylo had a group with him then didn't. I don't really like the idea of force memory wipe in Rey either. She looked to be about four. Memory wipe didn't seem necessary. Luke seemed to be a mess. But I guess it's in keeping with jedi philosophy. At the hint of failure, bail out and hide until someone more powerful comes and seeks your guidance.

Go frick yourself. We actually want to talk about the movie and the theories and all you want to say is the movie sucks and some day we'll see that you were right, blah blah blah...

NE MS as well. Grew up not far from where they did. Can do a pretty good Morgan Freeman and JEJ impression I think largely because of that.

Phasma being the storm trooper Finn had to fight that had the big blade would have made that character.

This is pure speculation but maybe Kylo attacked Luke before but was unsuccessful, and he may have lost his followers in the scuffle. There is also a possibility they split up, the galaxy is huge.

Luke is hiding because he knows Kylo would come after him. This is the same thing Yoda did in V and VI (wasn't fearing being killed, but hid because of his age) and what Ben Kenobi. There is about 30 years between Vi and VII so he is getting pretty old. Mid 50s to Mid 60s probably. Don't forget Jedi's don't want to fight they only do it when necessary.

again all speculation.

I posted this in detail in another thread, but I get the sense we are not going to get a traditional Jedi training session for Rey in this trilogy.

She idolized Solo in this movie, Solo the smuggler, not the Rebellion hero (she corrects Finn on that point when they meet him). She wants revenge against those who killed him, and so she and Chewie are dropping off the lightsaber to Luke, and seeing if he will come help avenge his best friend.

She sure doesn't seem to plan staying long, since Chewie hangs out and waits for her to come back (the Falcon doesn't leave as she climbs the path).

1. Rey vs Kylo could have been set up better. Her abilities did seem to grow very quickly. I think all of that could have been set up better if Luke contacted her in some way. something like Obi-Wan with Luke Skywalker the OT.

This has been brought up a lot but I had a thought on this. I think you need to think back to movie #1, and you can't forget about the power of the force. When Luke was training in the Falcon, he was fighting against the ball thing. He struggled against it trying to use his senses. Ben says when you lose one sense the others become stronger. This was key to his development in the force, he takes his eye-sight, and immediately he becomes a wizard with the saber. This happens in the fight scene she closes her eyes and calms down and she then becomes a wizard with the saber.

If you remember Yoda's wise words, anger was a path to the dark side, and remember how the emperor tried to bring out the anger in luke. Kylo had a lot of anger and some fear too. The force is stronger than training. Luke's skills developed pretty quickly in the original series, it's very reasonable for this to happen in this movie.
