Gee, if only we had a name for powerful Dark Side users... hmmm...
And the Knights of Ren are essentially the new Sith Order. Ren is more than likely the name of something/someone in the Sith history.

No. He needed to take a break from this thread and I just told him that. I was very clear that I like SFP and wasn't a dick about it. He is a top 5 poster here any way you measure it. I respect him and don't have the ability to run him off but he was getting a little out of hand on this thread. If he backed out it was his decision.

Instead of sticking with the tried and true method of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Handing this to "Disney" was a horrible mistake.

That was under Darth Bane's lineage. His lineage ended with Sidious and Vader.

Yeah Lucas was just like hey Iger, you want to take Lucasfilms off my hands? And Iger was like yeah sure why not? And now we have TFA.
And we saw what Lucas did when he was in full and complete control of the script and director's chair...

I guess that just makes Blueboy into a large a-hole instead of a major a-hole.

Just popping in to say I liked it. I didn't love it, however it was good enough. I'm not sure if that's a bad thing. I've kind of taken to movies universes just wanting more and being overly forgiving (like the Hobbit movies...shudder. Entertaining but, terrible).
I think the reflection of a New Hope was intentional, but not handled as smothly as it could have been. I think, for the most part, the acting was solid outside of Fisher and Boyega, however, on Boyega's note I'm not sure if it was his fault....
I feel like they went way too far out of the way to be diverse and all PC. Hear me out on this one.....Villains? An emo white dude, a Square white dude, and a giant pale white dude (probably an alien, but a whiteish one)....then they go right out and strip almost all sense of heroism out of Finn. He had some awful lines and a character you just couldn't trust. Not his fault, as honestly, I think they are just trying to make Rey more of a hero......because?
Because they really, really wanted Finn to need a girl's help. Rather than make characters of equal standing, I felt like they manufactured a scenario for a "girl power" moment. It it just came off as forced. Pun intended.
Leia wasn't less than a hero in comparison to Solo or Skywalker, that was the beauty of the film. And Lando steps up in the end to a fine degree without being so overt about having to play to a role. Finn could have been a badass, but instead they make him a massive toilet cleaning whimp, and that made his fights way out of place. I think it's open that he's force sensitive, and he could be a better character, but we have a couple of years to wait for that one.
A lot of it came off as uneven, but, Ren, Han, and Poe brought more gravitas to the situations at hand and were clearly the best characters. I like the sacrifice, I think Ren goes light, or at least anti-dark at some point, and Driver played it all well.
The problem with the reflection of a new hope made it entirely too predictable and you know they are fishing for a surprise, whether that's Snoke's identity (Plageius is both obvious and not so obvious), Rey's lineage, or Finn's force-ness, they have a few angles to take.
All in all, A New Hope had more magic, but it was nearly as rough, I wouldn't go all out to hate on this one, you are playing with one of the most beloved properties in culture, but I feel like they could have done better.
I'll probably see this again in the theaters, and buy it when it comes out, so yeah I liked it enough. I also reserve the right to change my opinion once I see it again,
just to make sure it wasn't all adrenaline....or skepticism.

I think this is a planned almost-reboot, rather than a simple fan-service ripoff story.
The story is very similar to the original Star Wars (I hate calling it A New Hope or Ep 4), but there are some differences.
The old mentor who dies isn't a Jedi, it's Han, our beloved scoundrel. Strictly speaking, a better mirror would have been Luke.
Luke sought the way of the Jedi in deference to Ben. Maybe Rey will seek the way of the rogue pirate, in deference to Han (tagging along with Chewie can help this path). And really, Rey has as much Soloism about her, as Lukeness. She can use the Force, but she can also improvise and be bold, reckless and dirty, and she can fly the Falcon (something Luke never did). Also like Han, she's not into the Resistance as such, she has other things on her mind. Those damn Storm Troopers have just gotten in her way, and that psycho dude dressed in black.
As for the Lukeness, a major part of the original story was daddy issues, and she does have that. So, what do we know- she was left abandoned on a planet as a kid. Hmm, let's see, Finn was taken as a kid to be a Storm Trooper... maybe she was supposed to be one too? After all, they can be chicks. Captain Phasma is a chick, and she's the lead.
Maybe Phasma is her mom, or at least the recruiter who chose to leave her behind... who knows? You'd think there's a reason they cast a semi-known actress in that role and made the suit completely unique, right? Would that lead to Rey turning Phasma in the end, and Phasma maybe taking down... someone? Ren, or Rux maybe? Possibly even Snoke? She's no jedi, but she is a highly trained warrior woman who'd have major high tech weaponry within her grasp, and if you can blow up a planet, you certainly can have a device that can kill any single individual, no matter how strong in the Force he is, at the push of a button.
doubtful, but it could follow.
The prequel trilogy was about the Jedi and Sith, the Force, and a neat, ordered society gearing up towards all out war.
The Original trilogy is about the conflict of throwing off the yoke of the Sith, and the overall destruction of most of the order and civilization in said society.
The sequel trilogy seems like it could be lawless and chaotic. The Force seems in disarray; Ren is sloppy and undisciplined, and Luke has failed badly with his Jedi plans. Neither Light nor Dark seem potent at this point. It might be time for a new direction, a new "force" in the galaxy.

Best part of the movie was when the Trooper shouts Traitor at Finn and throws his blaster and shield down to use his Power Mace thing.
