When I think of the term "shitty movie" I try to throw hyperbole out the window. If I am going to label something a "shitty movie" that means it must be on the level of Plan 9 From Outer Space or Birdemic. The prequels are neither of those. I don't have a problem putting any of them into my blu ray player when doing a Star Wars marathon.
The prequels were easily the most disappointing films I can ever remember seeing. But they are far from the worst.

It's been over 20 years. Still a long time.

I would not say this movie is close to as good as GotG. But I still think it's an objectively good movie on its own. I enjoyed the early scenes outside of Fin. The monsters on Han's freighter were a disappointment. But from then on the movie got stronger and stronger. A couple plot holes here and there. But I was entertained and intrigued and I left wanting more. Maybe I'm too easily satisfied... Ignorance is bliss?

i think the early portion had some terrible stuff, apexing with the gangsters on the MF
it got stronger after that, especially if you ignore all the forced bullshite (like C3PO and R2D2). there was a very solid 20-30 minutes or so, until they started setting up the final battle and then had the final battle and that was all meh (best summarized with "it's not the death star. IT'S BIGGER!")

I'm sure you're not being intentionally obtuse, correct? You can have jedi/sith, dark jedi, whatever villains and heroes you want. We, the audience, don't need to hear Yoda's monologue again.

but that has to all be established again
kylo v. reyson bourne is going to be a battle of those concepts again, and their development and internal conflict requires that discussion
how do you create that conflict without "hearing Yoda's monologue" ?

I cannot stand C3P0. At all. Ever. I want him dead. He's pointless. He's annoying. If not for Jar Jar, he's be my least favorite character.

he literally performed no role other than nostalgia
same with R2D2 (i know he had part of the map, but that was literally contrived and could have been left out and there would be no plot issue)
the biggest issue with the beginning half or so was that it was so disjointed and jumpy. nothing was established it was just one forced situation where they go somewhere, to have bad guys show up and shoot, so they run away and go somewhere else, only to have bad guys show up and shoot, so they run away and go somewhere else...
and so on, and so forth
it was just so stupid. it completely prevented me from being able to absorb the movie or feel its pacing. when people say stuff like "you just try to find stuff wrong" that's wrong. when shite like that happens it takes me out of the movie and i am a person watching a movie in a theater instead of being immersed in the movie itself

That's how the OT was. Bad guys here... Run away. Bad guys here... Run away.
But that's what happens what you have what the other side wants. They come looking for you. Not sure why that's a problem plot wise.

i don't get your issue
i'm responding to ell_13, and i don't think he has an issue with my responses on any sort of level outside of disagreement
if people want to talk with me about the movie in a thread dedicated to discussing the movie, and i talk with them, i don't get the issues

I'd like to inject an actual fan discussion if I could possibly get a word in between these to collosal assholes running (ruining) this thread:
Anyone else catch the voices of Obi Wan (Guiness and McGregor) as well as Yoda in Rey's saber vision? I missed that first watch.

I have no "issue"
It's a decent discussion. Although at this point in the thread, redundancy happens. If you were acting like blueboy, then I'd just stop responding. Strangers on the internet don't bother me.

It sounds to me like you've just decided you don't want to like the movie so you will pick it apart in any way possible.
Here, let me do it for Empire Strikes Back:
How did the entire Hoth segment in Empire Strikes back serve to further the plot in any way - including the entire segment where Luke was knocked unconcious by and captured by a Wampa? How did the asteroid field scene, including the hiding and escaping serve to further the plot in any way?
Hmm, all of that stuff seems like filler to me. Maybe they were included to create opportunities for action sequences, you know like the stuff you're complaining about.
If you really think about it, there's only 2 sequences which truly matter in Empire and that's the Yoda sequences (debateable actually, since Luke never completes his training), and the cloud city scenes.
I love Empire, it's one of my favorite movies of all time. I can make that movie sound like complete shite just like anyone can make TFA sound like complete shite.

My issue is that you are posting so much this isn't even a thread any more. It is a SlowFlowPro blog. Your points are valid but you are being obnoxious as shite. Every page is just you dragging nuts every other post. It's ridiculous.

I likely won't see it again. I've never been a multiple view in the theater person. I've paid to see it once. I know what happens. nothing against those who do. Your money and if you're entertained, it's money well spent.

mastery of the force is mastery of internal states (namely emotions). that means the same "history lesson" is necessary for all jedi. it's a religion/philosophy at the heart of the entire conflict in this universe. i don't see how you just skip over the religion/philosophy and expect to maintain the same universe as the OT
learning to levitate an X-wing isn't important. gaining the confidence to become nothing within the force so that the force lifts the X-wing is important. how do you show a "training" without showing the lessons?
Either you didn't read my post or you didn't understand it. Which is it?

well hoth was important to remind fans that while the rebels destroyed the death star, they were still scrubs on the run
it served a larger purpose
we left ANH on a high note and it was utterly important to correct expectations of fans immediately in the sequel
i'm trying to think of a comparable scene to the "gangster" scene on the MF in TFA
or compare the stormtroopers on tatooine in ANH v. the stormtroopers on tatooine remix in TFA (i mean when finn and rey are in the market)
