It's an extremely tough task, and I can definitely see why JJ was only in for one. Has to take a huge toll mentally.

Wait, JJ is only in for one star wars?

I agree with you on the point you're making here - Rey's magical power up was utterly ridiculous.

I'm sure they will address all the questions posed, in the next film.

People are saying she could have been a young padawan when Kylo killed them all and she escaped.

that makes no sense with her awakening, which is the title of the goddamn movie

but really think back to her scenes re: the force. if she were raised as a jedi she would understand it. we wouldn't need solo talking about it or 12 years a slave telling her it's her destiny. at one point she's even like "omg the force!"

They did just as much in Ep 7 as they did Ep 4. No problem there.

wait what? with respect to the force and jedi training?

Nostalgia.
Old characters.
Transition to new characters and saga.
Clearly was like a new hope to set up a new saga with new folks.

I don't see why that is a big deal. Clearly, there is a plot.

To be fair, those aren't really plot points. I don't think the plot was at the forefront of Abrams mind when making this movie, just to do a good set up and write good characters. It was the characters that drove the plot.

I think Abrams just put a new Death Star in because he felt that was the most effective way to get these characters fighting something the audience would find familiar. I can see why some viewers would have a problem with this and the lack of creativity in the plot. The plot wasn't creative and really a reboot. There is a lot of creativity when it comes to the characters and the Force, but not really in the plot.

I have no problem with this, but I think it can be a viable complaint to the movie and is what the people dissing the movie are getting hung up on.

I am unashamedly guilty of this because I am a huge Star Wars fan.

i'm a huge star wars fan, too. was raised on it

doesn't mean i will allow emotional thinking to overtake an objective analysis of the movie

You throw him into battle and order him to slaughter a village full of civilians, he isn't a pussy for not wanting to be a part of it.

I didn't say it made him a pussy. I said he came off as one. Like I said. The character would have been better served with a veteran trooper turning his back on the Order after years of faithful service and having seen enough of it.

Yeah I didn't mean those things were the plot. But that there was a plot. My bad for not being clear.

What are the thoughts on JJ only doing one? I don't know if that's good or bad to be honest.

People are saying her mind was erased for her safety. Think back to when she touched the light saber. She saw memories. Past or future? And awakening typically means from something that was dormant/asleep. It makes sense still.

This movie did everything the fans wanted.

you mean the fans who clapped when old characters showed up?

those fans have terrible taste in movies and/or are too emotional of thinkers to give any weight to their judgments

let me start with that I'm not a clapper. I don't like those folks either.

That being said, that is largely the base. It delivered to them.

Personally, that was how I went into Episode I.

me too. i was like 15, too, so it was easier to get swept up

episode 1 is actually a big reason why i swore i'd never get swept up in that sort of emotional thinking over a movie again

Why is emotion a bad thing again?

Cinescore has 18-25 year olds giving it an A+ fwiw. It ain't just the old crowd looking for nostalgia.

I think people are talking way more about the new characters than the old. Rey was certainly my favorite character in the movie, and I think most people agree.

To think because he was trained from a young age to be a stormtrooper, yet has huge moral concerns

where would he develop this morality? how would he have any sort of a moral compass or understand what "good" even is?

you have to think of him like an unsullied from GOT. he knows nothing other than service, and that service is as a solider

Stormtroopers are notoriously terrible at what they do. no comparison to unsullied

Past and future. She saw the battle in the snowy forest. She's got to be a Skywalker.

Perhaps most revealing is the fact that Kylo saw her dreams involved a vast ocean with an island - which is geographically consistent with Luke's location at the end of the film.

This isn't a coincidence - she either has some type of strong connection to Luke, or she's been to that island before when she was younger.

Or both.
