People were so excited about episode I that it took quite a while before people were willing to admit that it sucked.

The backlash among older fans was almost immediate. Movie critics were underwhelmed from the start, too.

There's some miserable mother frickers in this thread. But most loved it, others will hate it, just like any other movie. Life goes on.

It would have been insulting to John Williams, but they should have gone with his modern day equivalent in Michael Giacchino. He would have blown it out of the water.

No, Hans Zimmer. John Williams passed that torch down to Hans about 15-20 years ago.

I honestly loved the film, but I'm not blind enough to say that some of that isn't from nostalgia alone. I wasn't even alive when the first three came out, but I still grew up with the series.

I think when it's all said and done though, people will admit this was generally a good film.

I wanna know how such a peon had vast knowledge of the weaknesses of the Starkiller Base.

Any number of reasons... he walked the base, he was told by others, he was being cross-trained. All things that people in the military would do when assigned to a station.

Hans Zimmer

1. A slightly overrated composer
2. Does not use an orchestral score like Williams or Giacchino do.
3. Most definitely did not receive the torch from John Williams 15-20 years ago.

I mean, come the frick on JJ. Really thought he'd be able to bring some creativity to the table. Nope.

Agreed. This movie is obviously a huge failure.

One thing I think needs to be considered is Rey pretty much whipping Kylo. That's backwards story telling imo if SHE is meant to be the protagonist.

I'm starting to suspect that Kylo will either turn into the ultimate protagonist or be extremely powered up later. At this point, there's no tension as it is pretty clear Rey can beat Ren.

Good story telling typically has the antagonist seem to be unbeatable and right now Kylo is WAY TOO beatable.

To be fair, Kylo was fighting after he got shot in the side by a bowcaster and he told Snoke that she was stronger in the Force than him, but didn't know it yet (her strength or how to use it). Keep in mind that before she let the Force in, she was getting worked and being pushed back.

They could have done so much more with his character. He was disappointing.

Are you really this dense? You think because the fights between vader/luke and ren/Rey didn't directly affect the destruction of the weapons they were "irrelevant"?

Well no, but that's your opinion.

And? Journey to the Line is one of the 5-10 best pieces of music written in the last 20 years and that had no orchestra.

Look at his works from 1994 (The year he did The Lion King) until now. Look at Williams' resume. He's the best composer going right now and its not even a debate really. At least not an honest one.

eta: shortlist of his works - Gladiator, Thin Red Line, POTC, TDK trilogy, Inception, The Rock, The Prince of Egypt, As Good as it Gets, Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbor (yeah meh movie, great soundtrack though), and Man of Steel - feelings on that movie aside, if you cant agree it had a great soundtrack, then you can't agree that grass is green and the sky is blue.

You do realize that Lawrence Kasdan wrote the healthy majority of this script right? And when I say healthy majority, I mean 95% of it.
Yeah. He sucks too. Thanks.

Oh wise Nostradamus, thinking the sequel would be similar to the Original, teach us more.

Basically, this thread boils down to two camps:
The "I loved it, it was so much like the old films but with great new characters" people and the "I didn't like it, it was basically A New Hope told all over again."

Maybe some minor other differences, but you get the picture. I didn't like it, so whatever. I do understand why others did like it, however, because it WAS authentic Star Wars. Cool, I get it, but you have to admit that this movie has almost zero originality when it comes to the plot right?
