I wanna know how such a peon had vast knowledge of the weaknesses of the Starkiller Base.
Plot hole. It's stupid. He should've been a Captain in the Star troopers or a Tie Fighter pilot.

Let's play "Did happen it in Ep. IV or EP VII?":
1.) A droid has important information that must be delivered to the good guys.
2) The Dark Side hunt for the droid on a desert planet.
3) Storm troopers raid a village, killing everyone.
4) A girl is captured by the Dark Side and the Rebellion rushes to the base to the rescue.
5) The girl and the boy have a friend zone relationship through the film.
6) The Dark Side possesses a magnificent new weapon that can destroy planets.
7) They use it to destroy a planet loyal to the Rebellion.
8) X-wings are used to destroy the weapon based on intel realized in an exteremly short time frame.

One thing I think needs to be considered is Rey pretty much whipping Kylo. That's backwards story telling imo if SHE is meant to be the protagonist.
I'm starting to suspect that Kylo will either turn into the ultimate protagonist or be extremely powered up later. At this point, there's no tension as it is pretty clear Rey can beat Ren.
Good story telling typically has the antagonist seem to be unbeatable and right now Kylo is WAY TOO beatable.

How about did it happen in Ep VI or VII
1) Han must go to the surface to plant charges to destroy the shields.
2) Irrelevant light Saber battles that have zero effect on the outcome of the battle take place as the weapon collapses around them.

He needs his mask back. He's not nearly as menacing without it.

I mean, come the frick on JJ. Really thought he'd be able to bring some creativity to the table. Nope.

11- A father and son battle from different sides of the dark and light.
12- The elderly warrior is killed by his younger loved one.
13- The young protagonist from an isolated desert planet turns out to be an excellent pilot with a secret tie to The Force.

I guess it just shows there's only so much you can do with movie franchises. 9 movies is A LOT.

I feel like there is a scene out there that explains how he went from the Tie wreck to being back at the base.
In the novelization, his escape pod landed on the opposite side of the ship from Finn's and he started wandering around like Finn, met some kind travelers who gave him a ride to a town where there were some Resistance friendly droids who signaled the Resistance to come pick him up.

It's because they're trolls or idiots. And as I've said, there isn't a single screenwriter or producer who wouldn't have made the main character a female. It's a rhetorical question whether you make the protagonist of the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy a male or a female. The female give you much more new grounds and creativity than a male does. It has to be a female for completely non-PC reasons, and the film completely shows this. Rey will go down as one of the best heroes ever when this is all said and done.
Yeah no this is where we'll disagree. The best female characters are ones who would be great whether they were male or female. The best female character in any sci-fi movie was Ellen Ripley and the screenwriters have explicitly said that they wrote all of the roles in that movie to be either sex since gender had no factor in their roles. They elected to make Ripley a lady when Weaver came on board and gave her character the first name of Ellen when she came on board.
Rey would have been a great character even if she was a he. They would have had to slightly tweak Finn's interactions with her, but only slightly so.

JJ is just not capable of original thought. I called this months ago, as well as Leia sounding like Bruce Jenner.

Really surprised by the hate... What I wanted from this film, was a movie that wasn't a cartoon and that had weight. It was a beautiful looking movie. I personally loved the throwback themes. You had to do it to reboot this series... Now that the look is established I'm really looking forward to the darker second act.

13. But I also had many older relatives who were in awe of it at first. "Darth Maul was a badass!" "That pod race was sweet!" "So glad Star Wars is back!" "The light saber fight was insane!"
And those same people came out hating that Jake Lloyd's goofy arse was in the movie, that Jar Jar... well no explanation needed, and that the movie was all about economics, and that Lucas used a shite load of CGI when it wasn't even necessary. Granted, he used more practical effects than people think, but still.

Another point to consider: when Abrams redid Star Trek, the fans comments were very similar to what we see now: a lot of people who were adamant that it was awesome, and a minority of people who didn't like it. By the time the second film rolled around... well you know how that went. Most Trekkies have come to the group consensus that he ruined the Trek remakes. I think this trilogy will be similar for Star Wars fans.
You're wrong here again. The only people who don't like the first Star Treek reboot are diehard Trekkies who think that everything Star Trek should have glaring social commentary, which no one wants in a blockbuster. Besides, the first 10-15 minutes of that movie make it abundantly clear that this film universe is not the same one from the television series, so if Trekkies can't accept and understand that, then that's their problem.
As for the sequel, pretty much all the hate for that one is because JJ vehemently denied that John Harrison was Khan for no damn reason. Again the movie itself was good (both to critics and from its fan score), but yeah Trekkies hate it because it wasn't social commentary. What's funny is that all the news that has come out about Star Trek:Beyond has it obvious that that movie will be drenched in social commentary.

You do realize that Lawrence Kasdan wrote the healthy majority of this script right? And when I say healthy majority, I mean 95% of it.

So should Chewy be pissed that Rey got to be the pilot of the Falcon? I mean, he's been Han's co-pilot for some 30 or 40 plus years. Don't tell me a Wookie can't be a pilot. He flew it well enough to save her arse while the planet was crumbling beneath her. I think I'd be a little miffed if I was Chewy.

the scenes on solo's smuggling ship were equally ridiculous to anything Lucas tossed into the prequels.
I actually didn't mind this scene at all. It served a couple of purposes. It showed what Han has been doing since ROTJ, it showed that he still was much of the same Han that we all knew and loved. That scene also gave him and Chewie a reason to get their asses back on the Falcon and go home.
As for Finn being dragged by the Rathtar, it probably had already eaten 2-3 of those other men and was taking him in for a snack later. Thought that was pretty obvious, but whatever.

I bet that hurt like hell when that door came down and broke Ford's leg....

I just asked my kids who their favorite characters were in the film. One said Poe and the other said Ben.
Even a 7 and 9 year old can see how simple and boring Rey and Finn were.
Hell I'm a grown arse man and those two were my favorite characters too.
