It appears Disney has destroyed the entire concept of The Force.

Umm, I think you mean Jorge with the midiclorians and Yoda jumping around like a fricking chimpanzee. Disney actually seems to have saved it. It took the Force further than it has gone before, which is much more than I can say about the prequels.

Instead of being a tool that one must spend years learning to control, wield, and manipulate, it now suddenly has a "conscious" that picks winners and losers.

How is that? You're just naturally attuned to it, and it also has to do with bloodlines. It's highly implied Rey is Luke's daughter, and of course Kylo is Leia's son.

quote:

The final scene where Rey picks up a lightsaber for the first time in her life and takes down Kylo was laughable.

Luke picks his up with little training. And Kylo is not well trained at all either. It is entirely emphasized that he is poorly trained. He's got raw power certainly, and I think growing up around Luke and Leia gave him some grasp of the Force, but he's still reckless and doesn't fully realize his power. His lightsaber is a physical possession that shows this.

Did you wish he was more hot so you could jerk off to him when you get home. Sorry, but an actor's attractiveness doesn't really enter my head all that much. Maybe you were out to get your rocks off.
Yeah, that must be it.

Do you currently jack off to him? Is that why you knight for him on a message board?

He's awful.

By the way, it was interesting to know that any swinging dick can just pick up a light sabre and stand toe to toe with a trained jedi, even if he was just a pissy kid (which is such a great, epic character). Finn was instantly a great sabre wielder, and Rey stepped right up and defeated the great sith (or whatever) knight.

And though fuzzy toad Driver rammed a laser beam through Finn's spine, he was so incompetent that Finn was not killed.

Such great writing. That's some Casablanca shite right there, neegs.

Boyega holding his own with a light saber was the most irritating part of the movie for me. Second most irritating: can we get a new plot that doesn't include giant space lasers and a trench and an x-wing?

I had to say that, because I'm a fricking cynic a-hole when it comes to tv & movies. But even I have to admit......that was a great fricking movie.

Luke was protected and sheltered from everything until the droids showed up. Rey essentially raised herself and took her licks along the way.

She also had heard stories and believed in stories of the force. She had been fighting her whole like to understand and believe in something. Luke didnt have that drive or that path.

She was a lot more grown up than Luke was when we met them both.

Holding his own as in getting stabbed twice, the saber knocked from his hand, and then him knocked unconscious?

Did you miss the parts where she beat the shite out of people with her staff or pole or whatever? She knew how to fight with similar weapons.

And the name of the movie is THE FORCE AWAKENS. Pretty clearly referring to Rey. It hit her a lot harder and faster than it did Luke or anyone else.

I'll gladly admit in the threads leading up to the movie, I was entirely wrong about what it meant. Yes that did cross my mind in that the Force Awakens meant it did in Rey, but Snoke's "There had been an awakening" quote meant that it was something huge. I thought it was a mass empowering event where both Finn and Kylo would be imbued with the power of the Force. Instead its all down to a single character and Snoke only says it for the title drop.

I don't really see another explanation. If he is just a "ghost" then why does he say at the end to go visit him? He's a ghost just go to some random planet away from the rebels.

Well, you have to have a trench fight. Otherwise, the geniuses at Disney might have to come up with an original thought.

Darth Plageous re-incarnated or never dead. Darth Sidious's master and trainer and the possible true basically father to Anakin.

His plan may have been to kill Sideous when Anakin was old enough but Sidious got the jump on him. The defacto great grandfather of Kylo and Rey.

Chewie was off. Peter Mayhew has struggled to walk the past decade.Because of this, he was only able to portray the character when he was sitting in the cockpit. It shows. The new actor just didn’t have Mayhew’s mannerisms and walk down.

As for the other beloved characters, I was extremely disappointed to see how they handled many of the originals. Leia does not show up until the third act and Luke until the final scene. I will say that I did get teary-eyed when Leia appeared and her theme swelled in the background.

I followed the spoilers from the moment the film was announced. When I initally discovered that Luke’s presence would be felt throughout the film but not Luke himself, I was very disheartened. When people thought about the continued adventures of Star Wars, they thought of Luke first and foremost. That said, I did love the reason that he disappeared. Like Obi-Wan and Yoda before him, Luke retreated after a failed apprenticeship that led to a pupil turning to the darkside. The fact that it was Luke’s nephew had to have stung that much more.

Speaking of that, I love that Kylo Ren is not only a Skywalker, but a Solo as well. Darth Vader would be proud to call Ben Solo his grandson. Adam Driver stole the show. I was skeptical when he was initially annouced as the villain because lets be honest, the guy looks like he is a circus freak with his enormous ears. However, he really impressed me with not just his acting but his raw fighting style. I loved the manic behaviors he exhibited and the temper tantrums he had like a petulant child. Certainly, Palpatine wouldn’t have tolerated such behavior from Vader.

Many argue that reading spoilers takes away from the film. I would argue that knowing key plots actually improved my experience. Had I not known that Luke would barely be in the movie, I would have been preoccupied throughout the film wondering when he would show up. The opening crawl asks the question, “Where is Luke Skywalker?” To not have the answer to that question until literally the last 30 seconds was poor story-telling in my opinion.

So Rey is obviously going to be balling out of control, can't wait to see her be the "chosen one" who does some crazy cool force shite down the road.

Can someone explain what the fricking galactic political situation is? Who the frick is Snoke? Ok, republic, but Resistance? First Order? Did I miss a memorandum on this shite?

I could be wrong but I think I remember gathering from the text crawl and a few bits of dialogue that the republic and First order are in a Cold War type situation, and the republic is funding the resistance in a poorly kept secret.

I'm going back to see it 2 or 3 more times though because it's not all super clear.

This is another possibility. Though the rule for the sith is that there can only be 2.

Well, you're the one constantly complaining that he's not hot enough for you. That does not cross my mind, particularly for a character that is masked for 90% of the movie. If it's supposed to be a Bond chick and she's not hot, then yes that's an issue, but I don't really care here. He just looks like a guy with a big nose to me, and he actually kind of looks like Harrison Ford to be honest.

Yeah, there's nothing like the "I know you are, but what am I?" response that shows you're on the winning side of an argument. It's the single most retarded reply I can think of.

This may be the single gayest post in the history of the M/TV Board. Surely this is intentional?

The "Excalibur" light saber that chose Rey while ignoring Kylo?

Rey suddenly able to exert mind control over Stormtroopers, despite not one millisecond of formal training?

The rationalization here by some is astounding. Rey's magical "power up" in the second half of the film is ridiculous, both narratively and conceptually.
