much they could have done to expand original ideas but were VERY lazy.

It gave the movie a familiar feel, but yet it was very much its own story.

It wasn't lazy writing. They did all of this in a very calculated fashion. As others. Have said, it's sort of a soft reboot, and sets up a new epic and many more movies beyond that.

I don't like how he was overwhelmed. She had no "real" weapons training. Just was better than most. Just because she used the force shouldn't have given her the edge to someone with actual lightsaber training and knows how to use the force.

Kylo's fighting style looked very sloppy to me. He is skilled in the force, but his training is incomplete.

My other thought is that even with training, he has little experience in fighting AGAINST someone with a light saber.
Way too much has been made of Ren vs Finn and Rey.

Finn was a soldier, and at least TRAINED to be deployed in an assault. He isn't support staff, he's on the first wave that hits.

Put it this way- let's say Ren is a fencer on an Ivy League school, the top of his team, with a chip on his shoulder about his daddy, and generally a spoiled punk.

Finn is an angry Marine, and decides he wants to kill Ren for everything he's done.

Let's shoot Ren in a non-lethal part of his abdomen with a gun, then have the 2 meet up in the woods, and let the Marine get his hands on a sword.

Are you sure the punk fencer wins in under 5 seconds?

My problem in that respect was mainly Starkiller Base.

It's not explained how The First Order was able to build such a massive weapon without the financial support of a galaxy spanning government.

Secondly, the discovery of the base and subsequent plan to destroy it was done in such a lazy fashion that it felt like an afterthought. It was basically 6-7 guys standing around a projector going, "Hey, this thing is really big guys." "Lets blow it up!" "How do we do that?" "A weapon of this size has to have a blah blah blah." "It does, right here." "Oh ok, lets send in x-wings to blow it up!"

Then they send what looks like about 8-10 x-wings against what looks like 1 million tie fighters and who knows how many anti-aircraft turrets.

Well technically (and this will incite a riot), she doesn't HAVE to be related to anyone. The Force could just be reaching out to her.
I mean, it's a big galaxy out there, there are lots of bloodlines. She could just be Rey, not related to anyone.

I don't think there is any doubt that Rey is part of the Skywalker family. There's just too much pointing to that. And she's likely Luke's daughter.

Remember the Hammill voiceover in one of the early trailers: "The force is strong in my family....you have that power too". I would guess he says this or something similar to Rey early in Episode VIII

Does everything have to be explained out to the detail for you to accept it and move on?

Off topic but I don't want to start another topic.

In episode V Ben tells Yoda that Luke's is their last hope and Yoda says that there is one more. Who was he rendering to?

uke sure has changed from ESB where he had a vision of Han in pain and rushed to his aide. You would think after "feeling a great disturbance in the force" when the Republic capital was destroyed he would feel compelled to help regardless of his failings as a Jedi.

I have come to the conclusion, through 7 SW's movies, that not only does being a Skywalker confer upon you great strength with the Force, but it also makes you a moody, whiny bitch.

Notice when they go to the rebel base without Rey bc she is captured, R2 is shut down in low power mode bc Luke left.

But at the end when Rey arrives at the rebel base, R2 suddenly energizes and wakes up providing the rest of the map to them.

Could it be that R2 thought/sensed that Luke was around (bc Rey is Luke's blood)?

Also the trailer that had Luke talking saying "the force is strong in my family. My father had it, I have it, my sister has it, and you have that power too"

If it doesn't make sense -- yes. Yes it does.. I would expect this to be expanded upon in the EU.

The state of the galaxy isn't as clear cut as it was in A New Hope. The events do require a bit more explanation.

It's essentially the Cold War gone hot. The UN gets nuked but the western funded guerilla forces prevail.

The galactic political situation is in turmoil considering one faction lost its capitol star system and the other lost its solar system destroying planet that house a large fraction of its fleet and army.

I get that, but I do wonder how long the First Order has been in existence, how many star systems are under its control, and how they were able to build such a massive weapon under the noses of the Republic while they were supposedly under economic sanctions.

You have to be willing to accept a lot more as just being what it is and hoping for an official explanation later. Exposition on how the Empire built the Death Star was good to have, but it wasn't necessary.

Why does the resitance/any goverment agency/anyone with any type of military keep letting people build a fully functioning death star/planet? DONT LET THEM COMPLETE IT! Fly by once a decade and blow it up before its complete. I mean jesus really??

Also where are they even getting their funding to build such a thing?

And finally how does anybody even know anything about Han/Luke/Leia etc?

As far as i know they have NO MEDIA in this universe. No TV. No news. And thousands of planets. Thousands of languages. Word of mouth wouldnt work.

They have the "Holonet" which is where most of the galaxy's news comes from. No doubt it was more difficult for the Rebellion to reach the populace with media under the control of the Empire, so in a lot of ways, Han/Luke/Leia were more like legends than real people.

I do wish it was set up better or not blown up at all, just a rescue attempt. However, I can see how the first order was able to expand the technology of the empire. So what I hope this is just more examples of the first order inability to lead.

TFA had a ton of examples of how brash and immature the first order is at governing. Kylo murdering an entire village, stromtrooper(s) defecting, infighting at the top for the 2 spot, and Kylo childish outbursts. They are powerful because they rule through fear but weak cause their leadership sucks.

But how are they legends? Through what believable mechanism is that info disseminated throughout a freaking galaxy in a timely fashion?

Compare it to the mid west in the 50s. There is radio news, and a few TVs stations. But news travels by word of mouth by travelers. It's obvious many people speak many languages.

So compare a galaxy with thousands of planets, with hundreds of thousands cultures and languages of varying levels of sophistication to one decade of one region of one country of one planet? Ok lets go!!

Which as far as i can tell there isnt.

Well if thats not a rudimentary explanation of a complex issue that glosses over all the issues i originally expressed...
