"Lonely, unable to sleep at night. You imagine an ocean, I see it, I see the island."
Whelp, I'm disappointed I didn't put 2 and 2 together. I missed that in the theater.
But as deliberately as he is speaking there, he kinda blurts that last bit, and mentions it as if in passing.
JJ layered that scene even better than I thought. Good grief that was well done.
It shows that either she sees the future, she is powerful enough to steal images from the mind of the one she wants to see most, or Luke is powerful enough to feed images and thoughts across the galaxy.
I think I like that last part more. He was giving her something to search for and comforting her at the same time.

I think she sees her father in that moment, not the future

I think of it as the force is a tool of destiny. The most powerful people to the balence are the one that are the furthest removed from it. Luke, vador and rey were are stuck on some shithole removed from their true position in the universe and the force brings them home. That's why there are so many bull shite coincidences
Kylo is like the spoiled brat of the Jedi world. He was been given everything to be successful but doesn't have the real drive that being desperate and hopeless forces upon someone.

It's very likely Luke has watched her through the Force her whole life like Yoda did to Luke. I wouldn't be surprised if the love Luke had for his daughter created a deeper connection, allowing her to see what he wanted her to. In the books. Luke and Leia had such a connection, but of course that is no longer canon.

Based on Obi-Wan calling to her when she has the lightsaber, I could see Force Ghost Recon watching over her too. Maybe even being the ones relaying the images.

Not sure if everyone else has put it together, but the map piece that Lor San Tekka held was to the first Jedi Temple, not necessarily to Luke himself - either Han or Leia did mention during the movie that Luke was leaving in search of the first temple btw.

I think the scene where Leia felt Han's death, explained why she knew he was still alive.
Plus, he may have even told her he had found it via the force.
Edit: It was Han, on the Falcon.
Different topic.
I'm fairly sure that Rey was NOT the awakening Snoke spoke of. Because he says the bigger problem is Han, who was with her, and Kylo was shocked at her latent powers. Snoke also seemed slightly surprised.
I think it was the force itself.
The Force itself has never so overtly called to someone in the canon. At face value, it entirely initiated the call to Rey, it may have even initiated the finding of the last map piece. But for it to actively call Rey, would take a much louder signal, as it were. Rather than building coincidences like in the OT.
By the way, to people who read these threads and think we read too much into movies....not a chance, especially with Star Wars. If anything, we don't read enough into certain things.

Not disputing that.
Just trying to explain why she was more accepting of the force and it's power. She knew there was a club but didn't know she was a member. Luke didn't even know a club existed much less think he could be a member.

Yeah I know. I was just adding to reasoning to why Luke would have had more resistances too it.

Like I said earlier. I think the force is the tool of destiny. R2D2 didn't end up with Luke by mistake

I actually understood that point, but her ability to just use the force and do almost everything like did in the third movie was a bit much. Even if she is "naturally gifted" how was she supposed to know she can do mind tricks?
For decades we've had it pounded into us how use of the force has to be trained. Abrams peed all over that in 15 minutes of footage. One of the worse parts of the movie.

So what training did Luke have when he used the Force to guide those torpedoes into the exhaust port in A New Hope? Or when he used the Force to escape from the wampa in Empire Strikes Back? Also...what training did Luke do in between Empire and Jedi that allowed him to successfully trick the mind of Jabba's assistant or Force choke Jabba's guards?

Obi Wan
Certainly more than miss "instaJedi" had.

Obi-Wan was telling him what to do.

Yeah...that 60 minute training session with Obi-Wan really taught him the ways of the Force.
He learned how to deflect laser blasts with his lightsaber. That was the extent of his training with Obi-Wan.
Also...in this film, the Force actively sought Rey out. Usually the user has to seek out the Force. So there may be something different about Rey that makes her special.

Why was Luke's light sabre blue as opposed to green in the original? My 6 yr old son pointed that out and wants to know!

And the Force was telling Rey what to do. Also...if you listen to the voices while she was communing with Anakin/Luke's lightsaber, it seems like Obi-Wan and Yoda were both with her as well.

I'm still trying to figure out how Ben told Luke his father wanted him to have his light saber.
