It took luke 3 movies to do some of the moves she was pulling off. Acquired traits don't pass down generations last I checked
After the prequel plots surrounded about economics and trade agreements, this movie needed to recapture the feel of ANH on fast forward.
It was successful and sets up perfectly to go neck high next movie with deeper mythology. IMO.

And not much CGI. Thank goodness.
We had some bad jokes but nothing "cute" but for the droids.

Wish 3P0 died instead of Han

Again it wasn't about her use of a light saber. They made it pretty clear in the movie that light sabers are just fancy swords. Don't need a whole lot of force training to swing a sword
But I mean she pulled the "these are not the droids you at looking for" move which was Obi Wans FIRST show of badassery and Luke's assertion in ROTJ that he was now a fully trained master of the force
This chick comes in pulling it off in two seconds of trying. Like if I tried to shoot like Steph curry and then just did it two seconds later

Ren said she was stronger with the force than he was.

If you had been born with an innate ability to play basketball better than anyone else in the universe and genetically came from the bloodline of the greatest basketball players of all time and had just discovered this revelation along with the small knowledge of how to tap the edges of this power, you might be able to make a shot from the free throw line.
This movie is the force awakens. A resurgence of the force.
After Return of the Jedi, all of the Sith are dead and Luke is the only force aware person around.
In the span of Luke's lifetime the force went from being distributed among a planet of Jedi Maters and 2 extremely powerful sith lords to Luke, his daughter, his nephew, and an unknown sith lord.
That's a huge power consolidation.

That doesn't help the issue. He clearly isn't fully trained either
Talent still needs to be trained. That was like the whole point that Obi Wan and Yoda were yelling about for 2 movies

You may think it wasn't good. But now you're just being hyperbolic as well as making comparisons that have no business being here other than to provoke.
I detailed what I didn't like. You disagreed, so you made that known. How dare someone disagree with your opinion?
Why don't you just avoid the whole thing if you think it's so invalid?

I agree that's probably the case but why not make it clear?

They obviously both are in very serious need of training. I in no way left that movie thinking i was watching two masters with complete control over their powers. Is that what you thought at the end?

Mind control is a free throw to you? That's a complete Jedi master trick, it's not like riding a bike.

I didn't think that at all but I did not like how quickly Rey gained her powers.

Luke was fighting Darth fricking Vader. Rey was fighting a pissy, insecure, half trained wannabe.
ETA: Don't take this as me shitting on Kylo's character. I love that we have an unstable villain with character depth and not the stale, pure evil that we're used to.

No but I left thinking "I guess it's not that hard being a Jedi master or doing anything we've seen a Jedi master do because this chick just did it like it was nothing"

She is Luke's daughter. That counts for something. The Skywalkers are among the most powerful people in the universe.
And all she did was influence one dipshit storm trooper and grab a lightsaber from accross a field in order to save someone's life.
She didnt use force lightening, or pick up a space ship, or force push, or force jump, or any of those things.
And i think discovering her abilities while connected to the mind of her cousin and someone trained in the force may have fast tracked her abilities a tad.
But they are both very untrained raw talents at this point.

Again it wasn't about her use of a light saber.
You have issues with the fast progression of her force usage. I can understand. My point is people have seen Star Wars, the prequels set a very bad tone for the franchise. This movie had to go back to mainstays but also progress quicker with what the fans really care about IMO: the mythology.
Rey blocking the mind probe and probing Ren's mind, using Jedi mind trick, force pulling the light saber past Ren, etc is a stretch from the OT, but also a good move for the franchise in my eyes. The conflict and struggle introduced in Ep 5 and 2 are already introduced. Like a few have said, on fast forward.

the only person she mind controlled was a thoughtless indoctrinated to obey storm trooper and she couldnt do it until he was right in her face and she was looking right at him.
