I thought this movie was fantastic and maybe the best SW ever

You must have LOVED Matrix reloaded!

It's SOO much more VISUALLY appealing with it's complete disregard of all things fathomable!

Normal pushing limits is sooooo 1990!

Bet you wish they had 1,000 jedi fight because the 100 jedi fight was SOOOOOO cool?!?!?

Haven't watched it yet, but Angry Joe's spoiler discussion: LINK

They acted like they were recently sodomized in the non-Spoiler review, and he's getting off to a good pissed of start in this.

Movie was damn good. I heard about all the diversity shite and saw it but it didn't distract me.

They did Luke right imo.

I understand the initial denial. I'll see you in 3 or 4 hours.

And why did they write it? Because of people like us who will see through the bullshite, and they in turn can call us sexists for daring to call them out on it. Setting it up through something only maybe 30,000 fans will read is total shite.

I admit that I have a rather complex view on the politics of the new movies.

I think that the Rey character is fantastic and is immune from any criticism from that standpoint. Daisy Ridley is amazing and I love everything they have done with her. I especially like her because she was the doorway for my daughter to fall in love with Star Wars which has been great.

No quibbles with Rey.

Finn dragged down this movie which was perfect other than him and his cohort and he has no purpose. He did nothing that affected anything. He just had to be provided a storyline.

The main thing is that there is such an emphasis to avoid casting anyone in a protagonist role that that is a white dude. It's just weird.

Yeah kill Luke instead of unleashing him. That makes sense. Instead of unleashing his full potential over this film and the next, let’s kill him and force ghost him so he can Derp in Rey’s ear. GTFO

Yeah, when marched out against 15 AT-ATs, I was gripping my seat in excitement thinking he was going to redirect the blasts and destroy them all... but nothing. So disappointing.

While I need some time to digest it, my overall impression is one of annoyance. The best I can describe it is like expecting a good solid meal, but being fed nothing but appetizers.

There were parts of a good story here, and I agree with OML and C's take as to how this could have been greatly improved.

The stupidity of the B "plot" really took me out of any immersion. Between the casino planet, the "plan" to ditch their largest ships and hide on a hidden world, and the 18 hr running-on-fumes-slow-motion-space-chase, I don't understand how that all didn't get scrapped/fixed in rewrites/edits.

Also, the product placement pets were annoying as frick.

While cool, the force projection should have been established earlier, and Luke not actually being there was poor form in my opinion -- let him go out in blaster fire while holding it off for a long time or something, at least give him a hero's death.

I will give props to the final scene, with the little kid with a broomstick looking up at the sky.

It was purging of the old to usher in the new just for the sake of it. Hammill warned us....he absolutely did. Pretty pathetic they took the route they did.

You seem like the kind of guy that wanted Luke to land in his x-wing and force toss all of the walkers. Are you 13 years old?

You seem like the kind of guy that doesn’t understand Luke Skywalker. Congratulations on joining Star Wars at 34 and not having a fricking clue. Fight me at Sonic

And it wasn’t. What’s your point? JJ Abrams basically laid groundwork for awesome cinema and Rian Johnson derped around for a couple mill. Good times.

I feel like it was like being fed a great main course, but with some bad sides and issues like the courses arriving out of order and the dessert taking forever to arrive.

And no one does. She's well written and likable. Like Wonder Woman, she's a character first and a woman second. We root for Rey because she's flawed, compassionate, feisty, and looking for her way in the universe. Same with Leia.

Rose and whoever that Vice Admiral was: They're women first and characters second. They feel a need to be condescending to men who don't know any better and mansplain to them, but they are the ones who really know what's up. The Vanity Fair article had a correct point about this movie that it was about Mansplaining, at least in the B-Plot.

Yeah he was an anchor, although at least his story has nothing to do with his status on Earth.

Rey is a fantastic protagonist. As soon as the Star Wars sequels were announced, my first thought was to make the main Jedi character a female since it was a very organic way to mix it up. Unless the director is a literal sexist, I think that almost any director would have chosen a female protagonist for the sequel trilogy since it just seems like a natural evolution to what had come before. Making all the First Order male and the Resistance female (and tolerating their male subordinates) is not the way to go.
