I tried watching discovery and gave up about halfway through the first season. The good guy was the bad guy all along seemed forced. And the lead didn’t make decisions with any sort of rationale.
Is the first season of this worth watching?

Very much so. Most of us couldn’t stomach Discovery but loved SNW and season 3 of Picard.

The doctor and nurse action scenes were silly, but the rest of the episode was great. Felt like one of the original series films with the crew going rogue together.

I was underwhelmed to be honest. It felt more like a Star Wars episode than a Star Trek episode. The new chief engineer's accent was ridiculous, there was no backstory or explanation behind the Matrix like abilities that drug gave the doctor and the nurse, and I don't buy the Gorn being a threat like the Klingons or the Romulans. It also feels like they could be ditching the episodic framework which made last season so great. 4/10.

Season 1 was such a success that they decided to let the main character sit this one out for a while. They really can’t help themselves.

Season 2 of Strange New Worlds just started, season 3 of Picard (must watch) and Strange New Worlds are both better than what came before.

They almost completely ignored season 2 in season 3 anyway, but season 2 does end up being fairly decent by the end. The first few episodes were absolutely terrible though. Especially the immigration arc. Leftists don't understand that immigration isn't a bunch of white dudes running around after Mexicans, so they can't make a believable story about it.

First season of strange new worlds was a lot better than Discovery. Part of that reason was it went to more of an episodic format.
Pike was in a season of Discovery which plays a part in strange new world’s story line.
I did have trouble with Pike’s big pompadour hairstyle in the front in first season. In profile shots and shots showing the back of his head it seemed to disappear even though it looked glued half a foot straight up in the front. It wasn’t as tall in season 2 opener, but Pike also wasn’t around much in opener.
Also I know Hollywood is pushing trans, but surely they could have found one that could actually act when casting one for a featured guest role in 1 episode during season 1. As soon character needed to change attitude and act the performance became almost comical in a 2 snaps and around the world way. Very bad acting.

Episode 1 season 2 was god-awful. Spock and all female crew decide to do the wrong thing (they discussed it with the intensity of planning a baby shower) of after being told not to by Star Fleet brass. (No males I could see on the starship bridge. Not one white male human representing Star Fleet in show.)
Drug fight sequence was cringeworthy stupid. Apparently when you use the drug, the opposing team loses their phasers so they are forced to fight you hand to hand.
I will tune in this week, but man, I hope they move on from the in-your-face social justice points and concentrate on story.

CU_Tigers4life has started all of the other Star Trek show threads, and has accurately preached the gospel about Picard season 3 and SNW being awesome. Yea, that was pretty bad. Is the Enterprise run by teenagers now? Just a stupid plot. They throw the 1st officer in a brig for lying about her species but it's fine to steal a ship if your hunch is right?!
