Is it Rey, or is it the kid with force sensitive broom at the end of the movie? Obvious to me that we will see time pass between VIII and IX so that Leia can die of natural causes and so that this kid can grow up to be the actual “last Jedi”. That is why the whole casino planet plot line was necessary in the first place.

If I have to wait 5 or 6 more movies to see Leia die I’m really gonna be pissed.

Perhaps it’s The Last Jedi plural.

Being force sensitive or a force user doesn't make a person a Jedi. I assume Luke is the last Jedi since he's the only Jedi in the movie, and/or I guess Rey is supposed to be the last Jedi after Luke is gone.

Luke was the last Jedi. Rey was never trained to be a Jedi, although she was kind of trained to use the force.

Then how do you explain the kid at the end?

It is the name of the freakin movie, fool. Rey had the Jedi texts on the Falcon in the scene at the end. She is going to train someone, and I bet it will be that kid with the broom.

It won’t be just the kid with the broom. I think they’ll find many kids that can use the force and train them. The rising of the rebellion will be widespread over many planets with many kids.

But I think they will make something new that isn’t a Jedi. Because Rey doesn’t know what a true Jedi is. Instead, it will be someone who carries both light and dark in themself. It will be people who are force aware who are also balanced with both light and dark. Or that’s just a theory I have.

The whole point is that Luke decided not to be the last Jedi. I guess you could Luke was but decided not to be.

But isn't the dark basically pure evil? Why would a Jedi have both light and dark?

I agree. I think there won’t be anymore Jedi that are trained in the old Jedi ways. But Rey and the rebellion will teach kids how to use the force. They’ll be called something other than Jedi

It WAS evil, but now, it's necessary and diverse.

Seriously.

They have Luke saying the Jedi were full of hubris, and Rey is drawn to the Dark Side (Luke comments on that), she goes down into the cave where the Dark Side is manifesting, for answers.

So they are totally deconstructing the entire concept behind Star Wars (Light is Good, Dark is evil), and by extension through a very popular medium, doing the same with morality. ____ isn't "evil", it's just another way, and needs to be respected and even welcomed.
frick.

Or maybe Star Wars is growing up and realizing that life of really a series of shades of gray rather than black and white.

Life may be many shades of gray, but you have to have some sense of direction, or it's pointless.

If you can justify killing your boss so that you get his/her job, and by extension, better providing for your family, then in an amoral way, you've done good. Same with taking from others-if theft isn't bad, then you are providing in a more efficient way, if you steal a million dollars.

The Force (Light and Dark) has always been paralleled to Good and Evil. Han Solo called it a religion, the Jedi had a Temple.
Darth Maul had horns and looked like the Devil.

Saying something evil is just "different", that doesn't make it not evil, it just allows for the absence of guilt when someone does that evil.
