Which one was the most popular in the 80s? (without taking into consideration the transformers and gi joe movies of the last 10 years)

Has to be this.

You're missing M.A.S.K, Dinosaucers, and Thundercats.

He-man was more popular than Star Wars for a period of time.

TMNT was the biggest but a lot of it’s popularity was early 90s too I think. TMNT has clothes, cereal, everything.

Transformers was second biggest. I loved them. That 1986 movie is still good.

Looks like you have my childhood covered in the OP. I can’t think of anything else I was into anymore than all those you listed.

I've been re-watching the original Transformers with my 5 year old, and that show is legit. Yes it's still a kids show and suffers from the 80's animation issues that plagued most cartoons, but the voice acting, sound design, and story telling are all top notch.

It's also made me appreciate how the 1986 movie absolutely devastated the original Autobot lineup. So many bots that played a huge part in the first two seasons are just wiped out in a matter of seconds.

Transformers, He-Man, and GI Joe are about even but still a notch below TMNT.

Voltron and Thundercats were great shows but didn't have all the cool toys as the others.

Ghostbusters I think is a bit underrated. Great show and lots of cool toys but overshadowed by the rest.

TMNT was huge

The video games were awesome as well. It was always the longest line at the arcade to play the 4 player TMNT game. FYI, Leonardo was the best

TBH, I liked the ghostbusters cartoon more than the movies. The cereal was good too.

TMNT was too late 80s and into 90s to be considered. Was huge though.

GI Joe and Transformers were tops in my opinion

Voltron and M.A.S.K. were up there for the 80s as well.

Cabbage Patch Kids cannot be ignored and stalwart Barbie.

These and things like Go Bots and Thundercats were popular but not as big as HeMan and Transformers and GI Joe.

That movie was amazing. I remember seeing it at the theater with my dad, and I was in awe of the violence. Optimus was fricking beaten to death! A robot that ate planets?! I had no idea the movie would have all this. The movie was far darker and grittier than the afternoon show. The soundtrack is amazingly dated but the movie is still awesome.

Had it, thing was huge and awesome.

As a 5th grader, I could still lay out a sleeping bag and sleep on it.
