It's just a movie! It's not meant to be real! Why bother even starting this thread??

Of all the people to drop a comment like this it's the guy who rants endlessly about TV shows and movies he says he'll never see.

Something That Always Bothered Me About Ferris Buller’s Day Off

What bothered me is that Ferris is a complete douche nozzle. I really didn't like him, and still don't some 40 years after the movie came out. Of course, I didn't go to a high school where people like Ferris existed, so I saw him as an elite, preppy, rich kid who could get away with anything. I would have punched him in the mouth, actually.

Perhaps it was a championship parade for the Bulls or Black Hawks winning the title.

It’s a fictional story. It can be set in any world. One in which the Blackhawks won a title in the 80’s and Abe Froeman was the sausage king of Chicago.

Not sure about hockey but a Bulls parade would be in the summer. And everyone in the crowd would be wearing Bulls or Blackhawk gear.

why the hell was this massive parade going on during the middle of the day on a school day?

It turns out it was a real Parade that Hughes snuck a float into. He said he'd slip out of work in his younger days to go watch Chicago Parades. They asked the permit department of Chicago if there were any Parades going on that week and they said three.

It was the Von Steuben Day Parade, a holiday traditionally held on a weekend in mid-September.

But they advertised they were shooting a movie so more people showed up.

The German-American Steuben Parade is an annual parade traditionally held in cities across the United States on Von Steuben Day.

quote:

The New York City parade is held every third Saturday in September. It was founded in 1957 by immigrants from Germany who, being part of the most significant self-reported immigrant ancestral group in the United States, wanted to keep the traditions of their German homeland alive.

The Philadelphia parade, founded in 1970, is usually held every fourth Saturday in September.

The Chicago parade was featured in the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off
.

quote:

Prussian-born Baron Friedrich von Steuben, who arrived in the United States as a volunteer offering his services to General George Washington in the American Revolutionary War. Von Steuben is still regarded as one of the most important German Americans, as his training of the young American troops made victory against the British possible.

The shots of the people dancing was real and just rogue shooting. The only thing choreographed was
Ferris's Float.

The only thing that bothered me about the movie is that I don't know anybody who wouldn't rather fake being sick in order to sleep in late and chill all day at home instead of gallivanting around town.

But I guess that wouldn't make for a very entertaining movie

You know what's weird about the parade scene. Cameron and Sloan walk together talking with the complete body language of a couple holding hands.
