That movie sucked.

The absolute craziest thing about Mrs. Doubtfire? They made Pierce Brosnan's character actually a solid guy. The cheap and typical thing to do would have been to make him some low-life a-hole.

Agreed.
He was so embarrassed at the end of the restaurant scene, but handled it well and even shook Daniel's hand.

what is a loving father supposed to do? He didn’t cheat. He’s not abusive.

Sure, Daniel needed more fathering and less enabling friend but he’d clearly die for his kids and wanted them happy.
But it takes a hell of a lot more than being a good dad sometimes to make a marriage work though. That's the issue. And with him undermining actual parenting with his bullshite antics, that's not being a good parent at all actually. He can't be their friend first and foremost, and undermine the mother left and right. He has to be their father, and a good husband, and then the rest will fall into place.
Also, I only recently learned what Mrs. Doubtfire's first name was. I never could make out what it was, and I had never heard of Euphegenia before, and always thought it was something like Eufridgenia since he looked at that refrigerator box or whatever.

I feel like this may have been one of the major reasons Miranda opted for divorce over just letting Daniel stay home and take care of the kids. It was one thing for him to be flighty about a job, but clearly her work was keeping them afloat financially anyway, but being constantly made the enemy in your own home for setting reasonable boundaries for your children and having all you do undone had to be beyond infuriating.
