It's actually Thor: Gorignak

And I agree about the forced humor. It was at 90's Batman movie levels, like it was written by a bunch of simpering homos at a cocktail party.

First off, Fraggle Rock is awesome and I will not have it disrespected in my presence. The Doozers rule.

As for Thor, I think the movie is the comic book critique of European imperialism that Black Panther thinks it is. The way the Grandmaster oppresses his population with nomenclature and violent games is an astute commentary on how actual imperial dictatorships work. Also, Jeff Goldblum is funny as hell.

Also, I genuinely enjoy how much fun Cate Blanchet is having, vamping it up. Too many nerds (of which I include myself) take the source material way too seriously, treating them like some sort of sacred text. She goes all-in on the camp, which was the right tone for the movie. Also, like all good villains, her point of view makes sense. She also critiques imperialism, stripping away the polite veneer Odin put on it after the fact. She detests the lies and hypocrisy of it and a lot of the movie can be summed up with her line, "Loves to have it, ashamed of how he got it."

At the same time, the movie never lets itself get bogged down by its politics. The subtext stays there, never overwhelming the text. Which is a hell of a lot of fun.

Rotten Tomatoes must've lowered their standard for what a critic

The standard is if you're an out of work blogger and are getting paid by a company and will bother to post something on the internet, RT will call you a critic.

Just like how all these companies hire people to write positive but phony reviews of their products, on Amazon, etc.

Same here...so easy and cheap for a movie company to hire trolls and give us fake reviews.

Some people miss the boat on what actually make these movies enjoyable to a big percentage of the crowd. Like for myself, I invested in this collective storyline almost 10 years ago. There were individual heroes with fun movies, and then everything started to connect. They were essentially world-building at that point. To me, that’s what makes the films enjoyable. Each one is a part of something greater. And I get that it isn’t for everyone. But the hype is in the progression of the collective story.

Old folks see these movies too.

That's the appeal. It's a story of good vs evil, kids to adults love that.

Watchmen came out too soon and was so close to following the comic it won't ever be able to speak about the later comic movies.

20 years from now we'll get an Unforgiven type superhero movie. And then the genre will be put to rest except for the occasional blip.

To be fair Thor always rode a rollercoaster between the line for serious and comedy.

Ragnarok is a product of taking planet hulk, a serious hulk comic, attaching grandmaster which was pretty campy even back when, MCU Hulk which is all comedy. MCU Thor which was visual and fish out of water jokes. Simmering it with werewolves not swearwolves. And bookending it with a new take on Ragnarok from the comics.

Several months ago, I decided to watch some Fraggle Rock with my 2-year-old. She loved it. That's beside the point, though. It was in this return to my childhood that I realized that Fraggle Rock Doc became the foul-mouthed bartender Doc in The Boondock Saints.

Probably an indie film that grossed 1.5 million in the box office and only 12 people saw.

Then the ticket prices were waaaay too high.
