With the Apple TV+ adaptation likely lasting at least three seasons, the show really needs a thread for those who have read the Silo series and don’t want to walk on eggshells when discussing it. It would be entirely too easy to inadvertently post spoilers in the other thread.

So … SPOILERS to follow. Read on at your own risk.

It's been a while since I read the books, but I'm surprised they found the digger this early in the TV series. Didn't that take us a hell of a lot longer in the books?

Tigerjed and I have been discussing this. We read at least one of the books, Wool.

It's been years ago so I don't remember everything. Still enjoying the series.

In. I love that everyone watching it thinks it’s green outside and the folks in the Silo are being fooled. They are! Will be fun to watch reactions at the end of the season.

It’s been a couple years since I read the books, but I don’t think we got the digger until the second book. I was surprised to see it so early. Makes me wonder how much this season will tease the larger underground world and how deep they’ll go with the IT dept.

Overall, I’ve been really impressed with how it’s been handled so far.

I’m enjoying that too! I also liked how they brought up that she stole the heat tape already. The pacing is certainly different than the books.

Someone in the other thread accidentally spoiled and said there was no George computer guy in the book. I thought I remembered that Juliet was messing around with some computer guy in the book. Maybe different name. It’s been about 10 years since I read the books so I’m sketchy on details.

IIRC the first book has pretty was pretty much covered by the first episode, so i dont think its super early to get to the digger.

I dont think weve gotten a ton from IT/judicial just yet so i imagine a couple episodes will delve into that. i think they may tease other silos more at the end of this season.

im surprised the other thread hasn't seemed to notice the whispers of rebellion and those implications. I think series will get more interesting the more they delve into that and IT

We’re barely into book 1 at the end of the third episode, around 1/5 of the way through.

I don’t remember judicial at all in the books. I think they are taking part of IT’s role, or Bernard just controls things through them and the judge is a puppet.

The experience is a little different for watchers because we knew in the books by this point that the green was the illusion, not the grey outside.

Well, it’s grey near the silos anyway. I’m not sure yet if the wider world is green yet or not.

?
episode 1 ended with holston going to clean. thats the end of book 1.

book 2 is finding sheriffs replacement, generator repair, and death of the mayor. we've covered the first two books by episode 3.

Maybe you mean something else by book. Were a bunch of books compiled or something? I have 3 books total in the saga, and we are currently 17 chapters into the 82-chapter Wool.

ah you are referring to the omnibus which is a compilation of the individual books. in the show it seems we are about to start book 3 in the wool omnibus (books 1-5). there are 9 total books in the saga. 5 in wool, 3 in shift and dust.

Yeah. Book one (compiled) ends much further along in the story. He must be talking about chapbooks.

Me too. Watching with my wife who wasn’t read it. It’s fun watching when she doesn’t have book knowledge. Reminds me of watching LOST with a new viewer. The decision to prolong the mystery of what outside looks like for the show is a good one.

She thinks the outside is actually green. She also thinks they are pumping the poison into the suits or the airlock and causing the deaths, which isn’t far off.

And she suspects someone tried to murder the deputy because of the water bottles being switched.

I’m looking forward to the show peeling the onion, so to speak, on the rebellions too. I’m also waiting on the show to mine the tensions between the different levels/societal roles as well.

I just finished Dust so I’ve read all 3 omnibus books, and I’m enjoying the show for the most part so far.

One of my early gripes with the show has been how they’ve shown Holston’s death. There’s probably going to be a cut back to it at some point this season with the reveal that the cleaning helmets project a false image, but I’m not sure if I’m crazy about keeping the audience believing that the outside world is actually habitable.

I think one thing I really enjoyed about Wool is that you learn early on that the outside world is toxic with Holston’s death. To me, the book then turned into a mystery of who is actually running the show inside the Silo and then why other silos exist.

I also get why they’re building up Judiciary as the real bad guys even though they play no real part in the books (at least in Wool) - hopefully it works when they reveal that Bernard and IT are actually in charge and are the world order.

One also little gripe is that no one is wearing their colored overalls. Juliette and everyone in Mechanical should be wearing blue overalls, not these generic dirty outfits.

I think he’s referring to book one as wool, book 2 shift, etc. Within Wool there are multiple “books” which is what you’re referring to.

Agreed. The plot twist of they trick the cleaners to clean was big. But we have to learn soon that outside isn't habitable, Seems a weird line to deviate on. Im not sure id have been as drawn into the books without that whammy ending the first book

I don't mind the color job specific overalls being left out. Seems more important in a book to stratify groups, but visually on TV its easy enough and could be pretty cheesy

Yeah I mean it's not a big detail but I thought it could help convey the dystopian nature of the "know your role" societal commands of The Pact.
