Kind of a low blow to her but point taken
she is by no means unattractive, but compared to Mariko, you were a bit liberal with "smoking hot."
one of the below is cute asian girl next door and one is sell the house hot.
not intending to ogle ladies. "smoking hot" just stood out.

The “did you enjoy your courtesan” convo cracked me up.

my wife was half watching/reading with me last night and while it got a smirk out of me, she bust out laughing.
i swear that woman has looked up from her kindle 5 times in 4 episodes and seen sex/nudity the 3 times it's happened and then given me that disapproving look.
woman.. don't pretend like you didn't watch all of Game of Thrones with me.

I will have to remember some of John's insults to the nephew
Same! After the first episode I went to the local used bookstore and found a copy for a dollar. I am normally a slow reader, I have found the book to be EVERY bit as engaging as the show. I've burned through 400 pages in about a week.

I was very confused for a moment. I was like, that was Mariko, right? Then they kept going with it so I was like, maybe it was a different courtesan. Am I racist and can't tell them apart?

Am I correct that Mariko and Usami sent in a third female to please our man Blackthorn?
Also, I would not like to be on the receiving end of one of the cannons. Were they that accurate or is this just for the show?

I thought she just didn’t want to talk about the next day and that was her way of saying that
Posted on 3/13/24 at 3:56 pm to SammyTiger
Yea I think it was Mariko, but she wasn't going to admit to it the next day because of their traditions and such.

It was Mariko.
It is in the book, and it is in the show. They discuss it on the after the episode podcast.

I'm also pretty impressed with Mariko's ability to understand English colloquial cursing translated through Portuguese
Hawthorne's string of insults to people have me rolling.

that’s my one question.
is he supposed to be cursing in portuguese?
even when there are no portuguese around?

Correct. Basically everything that isn’t Japanese is Portuguese, at least at the moment. Mariko only knows Portuguese. Nobody in Japan knows Englis as I understood it.
ETA: I’m sure at some point he has just started cursing in English too. Show just isn’t differentiating.

Both ideally should be smashed at the same time. Good chemistry
Posted on 3/13/24 at 7:05 pm to SammyTiger
I mean don’t overthink it, we don’t need to get bogged down in her asking him to speak slower or use more proper words.
Posted on 3/14/24 at 5:08 pm to Tiger1242
The latter is easily one of my favorite side-scenes so far.
