I too really don't understand the whole "Jerry Seinfeld is the greatest" accolades he has received over the years.

Comedy is subjective so it's understandable that different people will respond to comedians differently.

One area I'll give Jerry a lot of credit (and I am a fan) is he has some decent self awareness, at least in my opinion. He could have kept making Seinfeld and cashing insane checks, but decided to end before the show became a shell of itself.

In interviews he seems to know exactly who he is and what he does and sticks to that. He loves comedy and still devotes his time to that. You don't see him acting in a bunch of movies unless it's something he's heavily involved in like the Bee movie or the recent cereal movie...two things he loves. He could easily show up in tons of projects if he wanted to just on name recognition.

My favorite quote/explanation for the meaning of life or secret to happiness comes from him. It goes something like "waste your time doing things you enjoy." He put himself in a position to do just that and my dream is to keep moving in that direction.

Any other comedians that would be as or more interesting as Seinfeld?

Robin Williams ghost says "Hold my beer".

His standup and most of his interviews saw him going off adlibbing like a maniac both physically and all the crazy character voices he employed.

However, he proved to be a very serious actor when given the chance and had many memorable roles as a dramatic actor that showed off his depth as a performer.

Larry David is a much larger a-hole than Jerry Seinfeld.

Larry David seems like a genuinely miserable person. Seinfeld, unlike most comedians, actually seems like a down to earth, normal, happy person. The most remarkable thing about Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is how easily he laughs. Most comedians in interviews do their bits and rarely act like they have an actual sense of humor. Seinfeld seems like a joyful person who appreciates who he is and what he has. He loves stand up and that is what he does with an occasional movie project that's usually something he really cares about. As others have said, he could have sat on his arse and counted his money after Seinfeld, but he really loves doing standup and still goes through the grind of doing that. Watch the documentary 'Comedian'. Seeing Seinfeld, after the success of his sitcom, getting heckled on stage in small comedy clubs as he works out new material shows you exactly who he is and what is important to him.

Probably not a popular take but I always hated Robin Williams' standup and any appearances when he'd go all manic improv. I never found anything funny about it and actually thought it was just obnoxious. On the other hand as an actor I always thought he was mesmerizing and probably one of the best actors alive. A lot of people forget that he was actually trained as an actor by John Houseman before he ever got into comedy

Seinfeld apparently has an army of downvote supporters but no one willing to actually post to say why they disagree with anything said in the thread

That happens in just about any post on this site. There are obviously a bunch of people whose main mission in life is to be divisive for no rhyme or reason other than to just do it and then hide behind the anonymity these sites offer.

I'd bet dollars to donuts if their identity was shown for every downvote, there would be a hell of a lot less.

Jerry Seinfeld is an unfunny loser who happens to be worth a billion dollars because Larry David is a genius. His standup seriously sucks and he comes across as a total arse in any unscripted interview/interaction.
Excellent take! He sucks like The Beatles and Forest Gump. I love living here with you in EdgeLord World! No pussy for miles!

Ever since Elaine hopped on the Kamala Harris / Trump bashing bandwagon, I can no longer watch my all time favorite tv show

I’m hoping I overcome this one day

Yep, he hit me the same way, especially when on the talk show circuit and he'd go off of one of his manic wild rants to the point he couldn't really be understood.

Jonathan Winters was a hero to Robin Williams and when they were both starring on the "Mork & Mindy" show the script held the importance of junk mail with those two.

Seinfeld has never, ever, promoted himself as an actor. He (and his costars) are acutely aware of his acting limitations, and he is absolutely fine with that. He will be the first to tell you that his biggest success was in surrounding himself with the Chicago Bulls (Jordan's Bulls) of comedy.

I feel sorry for anyone who wasn't around in the 80's when Seinfeld and Leno were the gold standard for stand-up comedy. You can shite on Seinfeld now because he hasn't transitioned into a podcasting comic who gets laughs from dumping on other comedians, or Leno for selling out. But in their prime, no one could touch them.

Is Seinfeld a less than perfect fit for today's oversaturated "stand-up"? Sure. But the fact is that he doesn't want to change. He made his fricking bones and dominated stand-up and sitcoms and feels no need to impress anyone. If you can't put yourself in an 80's or 90's mindset in order to understand his brilliance, it's your loss.

For as low brow as Adam Sandler can be in some of his comedies (I love his comedy, btw), he’s had some impressive dramatic performances as well:

Punch Drunk Love
Reign Over Me
Spanglish
Uncut Gems

I seriously tried to watch some of his stand-up and found it the most un-funny crap I've seen from what is suppose to be a comic. His whiny, nasally delivery make him hard to even listen to.

You just described Nick Bargatze. Bring on the downvotes.

Id say 75% of Curb (first 7 seasons) are better than any Seinfeld episode

I always wonder how Chris Farley would have handled a serious role.

I think he may have been able to pull off being a mobster.

Well the good thing is she's aged so crappily that she doesn't even seem like the same person from Seinfeld so I can still enjoy it
