Is this “obscure” it did win Best Picture, Director and Actor

The Crying Game

This seemed like it was big at the time but I guess has become obscure, but i 100% agree with that recommendation.

From that era I would add

Reversal of Fortune
Quiz Show

Check out "The Drop" if you haven't seen it already. It stars James Gandolfini in his last role before dying while on vacation in Italy. It also stars Tom Hardy as the two main characters. It can be a bit slow moving at times, but the end is worth the wait.

Yes old, foreign, new it doesn’t matter

One of my favorite older westerns is "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" starring James Stewart, John Wayne, Andy Devine, Lee Marvin, Strother Martin, Lee Van Cleef, Vera Miles, Edmond O'Brien and Woody Strode.

Newer westerns include "Silverado" and "Open Range". Both are pretty fast moving westerns with great casts.

If you want really obscure, give "The Ruling Class" a look. It stars Peter O'Toole and he's likely the only actor you'd be familiar with since the rest are older British actors. It is a bit off-beat but funny as hell once you get into it.

Here are a couple of others if you haven't seen them "Things Change" starring Don Ameche and "Being There" starring Peter Sellers.

What are some other movies that I should get around to watching that aren’t all that well known?

Frailty isn't some super duper obscure movie, especially considering the cast, but it's one of my favorite movies that nobody I know has ever heard of, much less seen.

It's got matthew mccon, bill paxton, and powers booth. It's a drama that will keep you entertained thorughout. You mention recently watching primal fear- if you liked PF I think you'd also really like frailty.

My only response is, it is one of my favorite movies...regardless of genre. Excellent selection.

Agree with both of these, as well.

If we were just to recommend older (and not really obscure...just old) I would add:

Shane - Starring Alan Ladd, Jean Arthur and Van Heflin.

The Magnificent Seven - Starring Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson.

For old, Non-Western great movies:

The Quiet Man - Starring John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Victor McLaglen, Barry Fitzgerald, Arthur Shields and Ward Bond.

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre - Starring Humphrey Bogart, Walter Huston, Tim Holt, and Bruce Bennett.
