Seabiscuit 20th Anniversary (playing on Netflix) where does it rank among sports movies?

This has always been a sentimental favorite of mine. Broken owner, who lost his son. Broken horse trainer who saw his way of life upended. Broken Jockey who was given up by his family, too big to be a jockey, half blind, etc. And a horse that was an also-ran and "too small" to compete. All ended up as champions that we still talk about today.

This movie has it all, IMO. And while it is a little sentimental and emotionally manipulative after 20 years, it still works for me.

This movie came out in 2003...same year as LOTR: ROTK. So it was overshadowed a bit in the box office and awards department.

My dad was a pretty tough guy. Never saw him cry or get overly excited about anything.

He nearly jumped for joy and started tearing up In the theater when that line was said.

Definitely a great Rewatchable

2003 was actually a decent slate of Best Picture nominees at the Oscar.

You had The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King as the unstoppable juggernaut; but you also had solid films nominated alongside it such as Mystic River, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Seabiscuit, and Lost in Translation. That might have been the last truly great lineup of Best Picture nominees in terms of films that were widely seen by the public.

It's an old school beautifully made movie from a great writer...Laura Hillenbrand

And sadly grossed less than awful Hulk (2003)...

that's the world we live in.

She's incredible. Seabiscuit might be the best sports book ever written.

As a horse person (and race person) I’m supposed to love it. I just don’t. I watched it once and don’t care to ever watch it again. It also bothered me that they made war admiral huge

It is better than the book. I’ll at least give it that.

That’s one I haven’t been able to make myself watch because I don’t want to cry. One of few horse movies I haven’t seen.

I recommend the audiobook, its well narrated and for 20 something hours it flies by, very good book.

One of the last movies you will ever see with real horses running all out. Cinematography cant be reproduced today (PETA).

Each race is fantastic.

Had no interest in horses as a kid, went into the movie...

You're right, blown away.

Like Man From Snowy River, Phar Lap is a forgotten gem.

Really not sure how anybody can't love this movie. Tugs at so many emotions, for humans, animals, loss, and love. Its funny, sad, and thrilling throughout. It's a true classic, not only for its subject matter, but for its cinemetography and score. Its a top 10'er for me for sure.

A lot of the stupid inaccuracies bother me. Also, I was bored.

To be fair, most racing movies aren’t a favorite.
