I would say he is too old now, but this guy is only 5 years younger.
I'm assuming they would prefer more of an unknown

Hire Cavill. Set the movies in the 60’s. Let him be Bond. Print money and reinvigorate the IP while you figure out the new direction.

They kind of already did this and the money printer did not work

Wanted a sequel to that so bad. Was better than 90% of the Bond movies out there, and I'm a Bond fan. Nobody went to see it in theatres.

Yeah I liked it a lot too, in a similar vein to the Nice Guys, think both got pushed out by the marvel machine at the box office being at or near its peak.
Now that people have tired a bit on super hero flicks you have more of a chance of a theater run, but facing a bigger issue with competing with streaming release dates.

I like the guy, but look at this list of Cavill's starring roles since 2010. Other than MI: Fallout (where he was not the star), nothing but disappointments and flops. While you may like him as Superman, all his DC movies were considered significant underperformers and/or critical failures, which is why it needed rebooting. Even the Witcher series eventually sucked. Whether these failures are his fault or not, why would a studio hand a billion dollar franchise to this guy?
2011 Immortals
2012 The Cold Light of Day
2013 Man of Steel
2015 The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
2016 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
2017 Sand Castle
2017 Justice League
2018 Mission: Impossible – Fallout
2018 Night Hunter
2024 Argylle
2024 The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

Any other time, I would have objected to the idea of a ginger Bond but since the rest of society wants a black transgender female Bond, I'll allow it.

I didn't like MoS but the director's cut versions of BvS and Justice League were two of the greatest superhero movies ever made outside of TDK trilogy, IMO.
