Opening was pretty lively, dude is kind of a live wire for a live show, high risk of totally awesome or total flop

Opening skit had Bill Murray as Bannon and Fred Armisen as Michael Wolff

I finally stopped watching SNL maybe two seasons ago but wanted to check this one out bc of rockwell. The science sketch was solid, but outside of that it was tough to watch. I’m a middle of the road voter who very often gets sick of trump’s schtick, but watching SNL try to force all of these political jokes is just bad. Weekend update in particular was weak. And when they do actually have a decent set up, Leslie Jones ruins the punchline half the time. Nothing against her personally, but she’s just not a good sketch actress. Glad I gave up on the show when I did. Disappointed they wasted a talent like rockwell this badly all episode

Other than weekend update, that SNL was probably the most even handed I've seen from SNL in a while.
It still struggled to be funny, which is the bigger issue.

Who’s been better? Kenan Thompson or Tracy Morgan
I haven’t watched more than half an episode per year for the past 2-3 years, but I do like Kenan Thompson. However, I still think Morgan was better.

Kenan is a more diverse talent. Tracy is funny but, let's be honest, he plays himself in everything he does. And I like the fact that Kenan has never tried to have a movie career*. He knows what he's good at and he's stuck with it. He's one of the best on SNL.
*except for Good Burger and that Fat Albert movie

A good episode but, man, they really need to learn how to end a skit. Their sketches just seem to meander around until the director cuts them off.

I enjoyed Tucci Gang, because Tooch and Rockwell are two of my favorite character actors, but nothing else really stuck out in this one.

True but this has been an issue with SNL for how long now... 20 maybe 30 years? You could even argue its been that way since the beginning if you go back and watch some of the old full episodes w/all the forgotten skits that landed flat.
