That’s the thing—nobody was waiting for sequel at all. It was a perfect self contained story. Sequel was a cash grab that had to retcon shite. Then add in the usual trash diversity checkboxes, CGI, fricking sharks, and cartoonish emperors. It was a mess.

The movie was very bad. Watching the first 10 minutes I knew I was in for a shite show.
The absurd amphibious landing (no beaches) or maybe siege that was terrible inaccurate
Numidians portrayed as black, when the ancient Numidians were not from Sub Saharan Africans, but were Berbers of North Africa.
Not to mention the Romans had conquered Numidia in the Jugurthine War in the 1st century BC and Augustus converted it to a Senatorial Province by the 1st century AD. By the time the Severan Dynasty came to power Rome would not have been invading North Africa.

Stealing hundreds of billions of our tax dollars in a thousand different ways to enrich themselves and their party, elections, illegals, law enforcement, criminals, articles of impeachment of a sitting president, everything Trump says and does, they lied about Biden's mental decline, they lie about pretty much everything else of importance.
Lying about those things is a bit bigger of a deal to me.
