The worst part of all of this is that there happens to be an insane number of great books that they could have used.

I also think it was the absolute worst decision to erase Mara Jade.

God I wish

But this is just wishful thinking. I think people would buy into it in a heartbeat but Disney has gone too far in with its promotion of Rey and all the ST characters

Star Wars the last jedi was one of the last times I actually went to a movie theatre to see a movie. It was so ungodly bad, it turned me off of hollywood for quite awhile in general.

This is amazing news if it happens

This is not happening. They will never admit they fricked the Star Wars sequels up.

I’ll repeat (I think I coined this way back in a thread last February) this fan fantasy that the sequel trilogy will be erased is QAnon for Nerds.

Edit: Link dated July 2021 for people who saw the headline and replied without reading the link.

No chance this actually happens. Kennedy would never allow it and she’s not going anywhere. Not to mention they’d need to spend a shite ton of money rebranding both galaxy’s edges in DW and DL.

Doing some back-of-the-envelope math

The Disney Star Wars movies made roughly $7 billion dollars

Factoring in movie budgets, theater take, and advertisements budgets, and subtracting tax credits, the total cost of the movies so far have been $2.5 billion, so they’ve made enough to cover the original $4 billion to buy Lucasfilm back in 2012 just on the movies alone.

Now, they have several Disney+ shows and toy lines, and amusement park rides, and an Indiana Jones movie coming out, so for all practical purposes, every cent earned by Lucasfilm IP from hear on out will be net profit.

Disney is in no financial pinch with Lucasfilm. I’d say the executives are comfortable in their positions.

I don't think this is true at all. Sony rebooted the Spiderman movies within like 10 years of the first set for legal reasons and now we're on the 3rd reboot.

Disney doesn't even have to officially say this is erasing those other movies, they just have to ignore the other movies and let people draw their own conclusions. The foundation for a new trilogy would clearly be based on the TV show universe Favreau and Filoni are building. As long as those keep being good people will happily watch a new trilogy and happily forget that other trilogy.

This. They had dozens of great books to use for script and plot material and Disney completely shite on them to make a terrible disjointed turd.

And.... we're done here folks. He is a professional doomsayer on YouTube. The Critical Drinker varies it up a bit but Overlord and Nerdrotic only exist because of their clickbait headlines.

Your chances of winning the lotto are better than the chances of him being right. Just nod and move along.

Should they reboot? Hell, Fav and Fil could fart out a better sequel trilogy but they won't. I guarantee you Filoni, and possibly Favreau, are going to spend the next decade trying to somehow, someway, make the sequels look like they make sense.

They can retcon all they want but I’ve seen the movies. Nothing will erase how bad they were.

If they made new movies, they'd still make money.

It would probably be smart to erase and start over, whole new revenue income and if the film's were good..everybody wins. The people who love that rey shite can keep that and everyone else can enjoy the new

I doubt this. Also let’s not forget who F&F work for. There is rumor for a 4th trilogy now to actually end the Skywalker saga the right way. It we will see.

My guess the new direction they are going with the release of the so called trilogy of comics, books, and animated features will create a great back drop for future movies. Which is what they should of done with the last trilogy is used the foundation created by the EU. Seems they may have learned their lesson.

I feel like we have these “rumor” threads re Star Wars pretty frequently and then they’re inevitably all wrong. Maybe I don’t pay attention to them much so some are correct, but plenty are false. Just copium.

Simply bc of the money spent and the how it’s already engrained into the parks this won’t happen as much as I’d love it to
