The difference, IMO, is SW insulted their fanbase. Marvel has not. They stick to their formula and that's good enough for fans and the GA.

The current version of Carol Danvers went through a dramatic personality shift after being drained by Rogue. Without the X-Men, telling that part of her story is difficult and may seem rushed.

Exactly. Marvel didn’t call us a bunch of sexist, racist assholes for not liking Iron Man 3 or Age of Ultron. They listened, they learned, and they didn’t repeat those mistakes. Star Wars’ response is to triple down on their bullshite and denounce the detractors as sexist racist bigots that were largely Russian bots, as if the Russians have a lot to gain from people thinking Star Wars was terrible.
