People just shite on it because it didn't live up to Alien. Completely different movie altogether.

Removing the masterpiece Alien from the equation and just watching it based purely on a stand-alone Sci-fi movie, I loved it.

Now I didn't love it or really even like it the first time I watched it, but after a couple of re-watches I grew to love it. Just the total feel of the movie.

And you can catch certain Alien-themed parts in movie. The part when the old man is talking to them in the hologram, they are playing the Alien music in the background.

One thing I said a while back on here was that I think most people who hated it went into it expecting to see Alien 0. And I get why considering that early buzz was that RS was making "an Alien prequel." But IIRC, that was not the case. I went into it with tempered expectations and wanting to see a cool sci-fi thriller-type movie with some sort of tie ins to the Alien universe. And that's exactly what I got. And there were cool scenes along the way.

I was satisfied with it, fairly easily too.

The fact that you have to assert that you're not joking pretty much says it all.

All it says is that I know my audience, a.k.a. this board. This movie was BLASTED on here by a lot of people, so I included that statement in my post because I didn't want people to think I was trying to troll or that I was kidding, since most people here didn't like it.

I'm not sitting through 2 more Prometheus flicks just to see one eventually connect to Alien.

The first one already connected to it though. So you're right...you won't have to sit through two more to see that connection; it already happened.

I didn't like it because I thought some of the characters and their actions were absurd. People just did things, not because it made sense, but because it simply moved the plot along. Other than that it was a very pretty movie. The visuals were pretty awesome.

I'll be tuned in for the next Prometheus for sure. The first one was pretty awesome IMO . I know people love to bash on it and cry that it didn't make sense, but it really did make plenty of sense IMO.

I didn't like Prometheus at all and I thought it was a pretty god awful movie. Not because of the alien shite. I thought it was a bad movie. Nicely shot, but it fails on so many levels that your left empty.

I guess I have to rewatch Prometheus. I'm almost positive it showed how the Alien came into being. Also showed that Master dude and how that race creates/destroys races.

Details are fuzzy but I thought the movie was pretty good and tied into the Alien series, which I have seen and like but am no expert about.

Now I got to go Wikepedia that movie to refresh my memory, unless some of you experts want to break things down and explain it.

This happened before Prometheus. Looks like he's doing the same here. That's ok, Scott has pretty much earned a pass.

Prometheus was sort of bad, but still fun. And it looks cool. Will watch the next one too, just not be nearly as pumped, nor take this headline to mean that he's doing what he says.

What I would have given for that guy from Lost to not have been involved with writing Prometheus. What a mess.

here's little question that Predator and Alien are in the same cinematic universe because of the crossover film.

Predator 2 with Danny Glover is what you're looking for.

I'll still go see this since that clown won't be involved and they will probably put something neat together.

To me, that indicated that they were changing things around and couldn't decide what they wanted it to be. The multiple superfluous actors in unnecessary roles might have had something to do with it.

Thematically, as I've said before, it's like a bad novel. The writer tries so hard to fill it with meaningful subtext that his story becomes convoluted and pointless.

Yes, it is a pretty film, but that just makes it all the more disappointing.

Only a little.

But yeah Damon Lindelhof isa terrible writer. He has some cool ideas, but he needs smarter people to actually make them work and, you know, write them. See Lost. Cuse's level headed-ness (eventhough he too comes off as pretentious), actually worked in Lindelof's favor to keep most of his ideas muted.

I think it could be good if Scott would acknowledge the issues of the first film and fix them. There was a lot about Prometheus that I thought was really cool.. but there was also a lot that made me want to bash my head against a wall.

Spot on. The cast was enormous for what should have been a really tight film.

Exactly, all the scientist did things that no scientist would actually do. And I know some of the things have been somewhat explained but it still seems off. Now I did find the Engineers very intriguing. I wanted to learn more about them. And I thought that the film was beautifully shot. I had very high expectations, it was my most anticipated movie that year. I didn't hate it, but it left me with a "meh" feeling.

There is a faux alien like creature at the end but it's point of being in the story is absolute zero. I refuse to believe this is in the same universe of Alien. I also think Ridley Scott is one of the most unlikable directors in Hollywood.
