And of course now the prequels are embraced.
That is how bad your movie was, Rian.

We all looked back and said, "Damn, we had it better than we thought"

which one of those three terrible movies had the bombs dropping in space? Because that’s the worst Star Wars scene ever made

This movie ruined an entire franchise but what was done cannot be undone and I just don’t care anymore.

Speaking of which, Last Jedi was a big hit. It was critically acclaimed at the time. But because there is some subset of some unknown size that is really, really mad online about it, that then becomes the dominant narrative about the movie

The biggest load of bullshite is the revisionist history that the prequels are now super celebrated by the fan base.

I would say they have gone from hated mockery to good natured, loving mockery.

Nobody pretends they are actually good films. They are silly but rather harmless.

Some do...you'll even see it on this board. Ep3 is pretty well liked nowadays. At least from what I can tell

The story is there in the prequels. There are edits and highlight clips across YouTube that showcase the world building and intention of them. Add in The Clone Wars and some of the written literature/comics around the prequels, and you’ve got a really solid back story that expanded the Star Wars universe into complex territory that rivals Tolkien.

They were just executed poorly on screen in the name of Hollywood money-grubbing and Lucas’s stubbornness.

We can see the tragedy that is Anakin Skywalker’s life even though we had to piece things together from Lucas’s poor portrayal.

There’s nothing redeeming about The Last Jedi or the any of the films in the trilogy.

Yes you are right, the prequels had terrible dialogue, stilted acting, snd way too much CGI, but they at least had a coherent arc, even if done not well at times.

eh. Phantom Menace was a good movie (minus Jar Jar). The rest of them sucked. Palpatine becomes the emperor and Annikan has to turn evil, so you already know how the series has to end, but I'm not so sure their "how do we get from here to there" decisions were very good. And I'm not nearly as much of a film snob as 90% of the people on this board.

Maybe if I was 9 years old when they came out, I would like them better. But I was in my 20's and not that into it.

The prequels fleshed out Star Wars and did a great job at building the world. Shitty dialogue and not spending enough time on Anakins fall made them not great films

The sequels have zero redeeming qualities. Destroyed Luke’s and Anakins significance. I wish Disney would just say “my bad” and put those in the vault and start over

RJ cannot help himself when it comes to putting his politics into his movies. Everyone loves the Knives Out stuff, but it is not a coincidence that the bad guys in the first one are the white people and it ends with the immigrant girl standing over them, and the second one is transparently Elon Musk.

yet one could easily tell that JJ wanted to have Kylo on a redemption arc like Vader and have Snoke be the Palpatine role. so yes, you intentionally undid what JJ was laying the foundation for because you wanted something else.

The Force Awakens was not a bad movie. I'll put that on my momma and my dead homies.

Rogue One and Andor proved you can tell amazing stories between amazing stories, even when you know how it ends.

I think Rian was just the fall guy. They wanted to make this piece of shite for their own political purposes and if it didn’t work out, Rian could be thrown under the bus. That’s my belief.
