The thing that has he messed up is how they cut between 2008 and now as if it’s different POV of the same event.

Explosion, etc

But in reality it is different decades, different cities, different universes.

The thing that still has me messed up is that in the very beginning of the trailer it clearly says "10 years ago, something arrived, now find out why." But, they never definitively say that in the movie.

Maybe I'm saying it wrong. But, in the original Cloverfield there wasn't an energy crisis. This movie shows the two survivors returning to earth while the attack is happening, which I thought happened years before this movie. So the space mission is years after 1st movie, but they return to earth while monster is attacking?

The sad thing is, that’s probably the most reasonable and straight forward explanation for it all

It was a decent movie. Not great. Not terrible.

Except the monster we see at the end isn’t the same as the one in the 2008 film (this version is a lot bigger)

And even if it was, if it was located at that angle, it would have been on film in the last shot of the movie.

The CGI on it was pretty bad.

The only CGI that bothered me was when the comic relief lost his arm and then the stub he was left with. Other than that I thought it was decent.

A lot of you people are getting way too worked up on continuity in a movie that explicitly told you, in the very beginning, that the depicted events were going to alter the reality of the past, present, and future.

This.

I liked it and am fine with the flexible plot structure. It's a science fiction about clashing dimensions. Anything goes a this point.
