Red Rising film in the works at Paramount

Would have preferred a series by Apple, but it’s nice to see the adaptation rumors finally become a reality. Makes sense the Hunger Games director would work on this since the first book is essentially a combination of Ender’s Game and Hunger Games. Hopefully Pierce Brown is given significant creative control over this. He has been holding out for a while.

Justin Rhodes, who worked with Lawrence developing Netflix’s video game adaptation Bioshock, will pen the script. Brown, who also wrote a Rising comic book prequel story published by Dynamite Entertainment, will executive produce.

A blend of Roman mythology with science fiction, Rising is set on Mars in a future where society is set up in a color-coded class system, with the superior Golds on top. The story centers on Darrow, a young miner who is a Red, the lowest on the ladder and a people who exist to do hard labor. After seeing his love die and discovering the truth about his existence, Darrow infiltrates the Gold society with an aim to bring it down.

I only read the first book in the series, but enjoyed it.
I agree, Apple would be my preference as well.

I enjoyed the series when it came out. I'm surprised it took this long to make a film out of it.

It’s never been confirmed, but there’s been a rumor going around for years that the last negotiations ended because they wanted to gender-swap Sevro and use him to create a love-triangle situation.

Second book is my favorite of the first trilogy. It’s a lot less derivative of other series like Hunger Games and Ender’s Game. The fifth and sixth books are my favorites overall.

The rights have been passed around three or four times. It's not an easy task. It's going to get accused of being a Hunger Games knockoff if done wrong.
I agree with others. Always hoped for an Apple TV series.

I’m a massive RR fan and really didn’t want the adaptation to be a movie.
Red Rising should be a series on HBO or Apple. With the right budget and showrunner, it could be one of the best series ever.

Only book 1. Turns into a space opera after that. So just depends how a movie tackles the source material.
Im a little concerned that author Pierce Brown isnt writing his own screenplay. Seems like thats a sure way to have major changes to the source. Compared to Brandon Sanderson who IS writing his own screenplay for Mistborn.
And I wish this was a series instead of movie.

Of course they did
Take perfectly good source material and ruin it

Hopefully it’s because he’s too slammed with Red God. His recent updates make me think he’s toiling over turning the last book into 2 parts and he doesn’t want to admit it, which is a good thing.
We don’t need another GRRM who cares more about the adaptation than finishing the book.
Also I want this to be a show because the first book is definitely in YA range but by book 2 it turns much grittier. The movie needs to be gritty right off the bat and set the tone.

Mustang will be black.
That would require the Jackal to be black too and no way they allow that.

This is like the perfect show for Hollywood. They don’t have to gender swap anyone. The ruler is female, Darrow says the smartest is Mustang, a female, the best fighter, Aja, is female and it goes on
Plenty of red meat for Hollywood
I just hope Brown has at least some of what Apple is reportedly giving Sanderson as far as control. We shall see

Yes but if the first movie flops, that'll be it for it.
