Hunt for Red October easily outclasses even the Harrison Ford films (which I enjoy). Agree or disagree?

3rd or 2nd place is btw Ford and the new Amazon series.

I think most people think so. I saw Hunt a few times (a long time ago) and it’s fine but I just grew up with the Harrison Ford ones and he will always be my Jack Ryan

I respect the choice, Ford did 2 really good movies, but not sure I understand why.

there was only like 4 years btw October and Clear & Present Danger. I think there was more time btw Avengers movies than Jack Ryan movies

Hunt is the best:
Jack Ryan movie
Sub movie.
Alec Baldwin movie
John McTiernan movie (and that's saying something)

Its one of my favorite movies. Makes me wish Baldwin had done more with the character.

I agree. Wish Baldwin had at least made another one, but I do wonder if these movies have the superhero movie problem...

Are they as only as good as the antagonist? The three best feature Sean Connery, Sean Bean and William Dafoe, at least as a counter point character to the hero.

It was always my 2nd favorite of the Clancy books behind The Cardinal of the Kremlin which was never made into a movie

I liked it as well. I was really excited about the series and liked it except I don't like when Hollywood fricks with the characters and storyline to soften it for the masses.

The tv show is funny. In a lot of ways the tone is more true to the books; but then there's the issue of it not actually being a book story. And also, there's a major flaw, which is the technical inaccuracies onscreen- Clancy was always a stickler for technical details and accuracy.
If they can clean that up, I think that becomes the winner.

The Ford movies are good movies, but they're not 'Jack Ryan' that I remember from the books.

Red October was the best film, but Ford is the better Ryan vis-a-vis the book character.

The Hunt For Red October wins on its musical score alone. Basil Poledouris did a fantastic job composing the soundtrack:

The opening part of the Hymn to Red October is pure epic genius.

I love it a lot. The only Jack Ryan movie I’m not fond of is Sum of All Fears. Only saw the film “Jack Ryan” once and that was when it was in theaters, totally forgot what it was about tbh

It is no coincidence it is the best Clancy book, although, on a good day, Red Storm Rising and Without Remorse are right there.

The movies got worse and worse.
