I agree with this, adding the shining was definitely an improvement on the book. It was cool as hell looking.

That was probably one of the coolest effects I have seen in a movie

This, when they walked into the big hall where Jack types I was completely blown away.

I would love to see a video of exactly how that was done.

Just got out. I thought it was REALLY good. A few complaints, but really enjoyed it.

My sentiments exactly. Read the book and the Shining addition made up for any differences in the movie. Fun flick, and seeing it in 3D along with RPX sound was a big plus.

I took my 11 year old son today and he loved it. I was expecting a movie that an 11 year old would love so I came away happy too. I liked the old game references and predicted the Adventure Easter egg to my son as soon as they said it was an Atari 2600 game.

One thing that I thought about on the way home was how Aech decided to “go with it” with the nude bather in the Shining bathroom but then learning that Aech was a female.

Definitely

Only bad thing was the rest of the movie following that scene was kind of a let down

It’s made clear in the book that IRL Aech is homosexual.

I just saw it... The Shining scene created one of the most visceral and awesome theater experiences I've ever been in.

Evrybody in the theater started snickering and shouting "oh no!" and stamping their feet on the floor like they were scared teenagers as a soon as they saw the interior of the Overlook.... It was just so cool.

I also like how most of the "real life" scenes with the aunt and her boyfriend were lit and shot just like a 1980s theatrical-like music video. It felt exactly some of those old cutaway scenes in Thriller or something.

Overall, the film was very enjoyable and kids would absolutely love it.

I really wish they would have used the Back to the Future theme much more when he was driving the DeLorean.

Its also obvious Disney said go screw to Spielberg on the star wars rights because in a world like that 1/3 of all the stuff would be star wars.

Too bad Lucas doesnt still own the franchise because I figure he would've cut Spielberg a deal.

I caught the Falcon and Padawan verbal references. I looked it up to see if there were more and there are (X-wing, Leia, R2, Han’s belt)

It’s nuts how many Easter eggs there are packed into this film. Everything moves so fast so it’s impossible to catch them all.

Wow...I had no idea.. I missed it all.

Only ones I caught besides the biggies were the Mad Max interceptor and robocop. I also thought the Akira motorcycle was awesome, but looked so much like a tron Legacy bike

Saw it this afternoon in Dolby Theater. I loved it. Pure 80s and 90s nostalgia done up Spielberg style. Just over the top visually. It's no Schindler's List, but that's not what I expected from Spielberg. I got exactly what I expected: fun Spielberg holiday blockbuster. One thing that was glaring was that from jump you can tell that Williams didn't score this one for Spielberg and that just seems wrong. Silvestri did a good job, but when you're so used to hearing Williams when you're seeing Spielberg, it just is off.

I wish I'd seen it the first time in 3D because that whole The Shining sequence has to be fricking awesome in 3D.

I will definitely be seeing it again in 3D.

I didn’t care if they changed some of the pop culture to reflect the 90s since that only expands its audience.

The big changes I noticed:

- Taking the challenge out of finding the Gates after getting each key
- Parcival going into a funk of sorts for a while after being rejected by Art3mis (getting that apartment in the city)
- One of the oriental guys not dying
- Og not showing up to wreck shop during the attack
- Og not bailing the High 5 out for the last challenge by taking them to his mansion with the latest equipment (although he kind of bailed him out with the extra life coin).

ETA: All that being said, none of this took me out of the movie and I thought it was great fun.

my wife and I being big fans of the book, were seriously hoping they would not frick it up - and in our opinion they didn't/

some changes were odd, but necessary and we were not disappointed by them in the least.

man what a fun movie - will be seeing it again either tonight or tomorrow night.

shining scene was amazing - and 2 words - fricking Chucky!

I did on the first page. I know it's a spoiler thread, but the discussion needn't always be so overt.

I thought the book was good, not great. Saw the movie yesterday and thought it was mediocre. Cheesy dialogue, bad acting, nonsensical changes to the source material, etc. I realize I'm in the minority here, but I found the movie dull.

Went to see with my son who loves the book. I had no expectations or preconceived notions. I enjoyed it, fun vintage Spielberg flick. He loved it.
