Questions about Alien (spoilers?)

I realized a few weeks ago that I had never actually sat down and watched the entire movie from start to finish, so I did.
I thought it was really good - appreciated the "slow burn" quality to it that is so absent from most major releases today.
But my question is about Ash. It's obviously revealed that he is an android, sent by "the company" to ensure the alien makes it back to earth. Question: if the company had the ability to make androids of that quality, why involve humans in space exploration at all?
And another smaller question: when the alien was able to make it onto the escape shuttle, it appeared to be sort of incapacitated and/or wedged into a tight spot. What actually happened there?
And finally, is it worth watching Aliens (and any of the other sequels)? I have never seen any of them.

Only one of the best sci-fi movies ever made. Different kind of movie from Alien though.
The others were good, but not great.

Maybe humans are still smarter or able to do things androids can't. I don't know if they ever explained that.
Skip Alien 3, its boring. Alien Resurrection gets a lot of hate too but I love it. Aliens is a must watch, like right now if you've never seen it.

They weren't exploring. They've space truckers.. Androids are probably way too expensive to eve be near to common. Remember they send and entire spacecraft full of marines and only sent 1 android. Also, they obviously malfunction. Also, they needed to sneak a living specimen back through customs imbedded in a living human.

I suppose that's plausible, although it seems like the crew were very aware of androids of that quality existing.

Were they marines? I didn't catch that.

So do humans.

I missed that you hadn't seen aliens. The marines are in aliens and the plan of how to get around quarintine were in aliens (not spoilers)

That's better.

Yes. Aliens is a great action film. Alien 3 is a Fincher film, that's worth it alone. Resurrection is just weird, but a fun weird.

Definitely watch Aliens certainly one of the top a sci-fi movies of all time. James Cameron did a great job taking off where Ridley Scott left off with Alien.

Better than Mad Max?

This is somewhat of a spoiler for Aliens.
Ripley didn't find out until the end that Bishop was an android.

Aliens just isn't much a sci-fi film. It's an action film with sci-fi undertones. Just don't go in expecting to be wowed by possibilities and ideas and new worlds. It's a balls to the wall action film not a sci-fi film. A great one, however.

She learns about Bishop before they ever leave the Saluko to go land on the settlement.

It's simple: humans are more expendable and more importantly, cheaper.

Exactly. She freaks out during breakfast and bishop makes the comment about how ash's model was an infamously troubled model

Yea, if I remember correctly Bishop was doing the knife trick and cut himself and something other than blood oozed out.

Damn I don't remember that at all. Maybe I need to rewatch this one day.

This is the clip: Bishop Knife Trick
It cuts out before he sits down near Ripley and she sees the ooze.

Absolutely.
I'm in the minority's, but Aliens is a bit overrated. And that's not to say it's not great, because it is. But I'd rank it third in the original trilogy...but I'm also in the minority in that I think Alien 3 is VASTLY underrated. It has a lot of the same qualities that make the original so great.
And Aliens is great too, but it's a completely different vibe than the original. It's basically a shoot-em-up action thriller.
Alien Resurrection is solid as well. Not as good as the trilogy but definitely a good effort, especially considering its the fourth in the series.
Also, I really liked the first AVP (Alien vs. Predator) movie. It's over the top a bit, but it's tons of fun. So if you like the series you might want to check it out.
