The infamous "I've waited years" scene. If you had to live alone in a spaceship for 23 years, what do you think your psychological disposition would be like when the rest of the crew returned?

Would be like saying goodbye to them around New Year's Day 1994, and having them return today at their original age.

What would you say? Would you be emotional? Depressed? Happy to see another human? Would you cry? Crazy to imagine what that would be like.

I would've gone back home I would imagine being ecstatic to see another face. He did say he went to sleep for a long time, so I'm sure that helped a lot.

I only saw that movie once in theaters. Who says "23 years, 4 months, 8 days" in that clip you posted.

As mentioned, he slept through it. I would imagine most of it.

In reality if he was awake for most of it, he would be beyond looney. Probably dead from suicide if I had to guess.

This.

He went into his deep sleep for most of it.

Nice catch about the sleep.

Let's say that the deep sleep technology didn't exist. Would you go crazy? It's really hard to wrap your mind around 23 years of isolation.

Yes he'd either have gone totally nuts after 23 years or more likely would've went to look for them or jetted out of there.

Anyone who says they wouldn't is either lying or crazy already. Suicide chances would be pretty high.

Well he was in cryosleep for a large portion of it. It's not like he just was awake and alone for 23 years just doing his thing.

Great movie. Wish HBO or somebody would pick it up.

Lots of masturbation then insanity.

Dude was awful mellow in the movie though so I'm guessing he chilled in the deep freeze for a couple decades.

He wasn't totally alone either. Didn't he have one of the robots with him? At least he could talk to it when he was awake.

I think it's the robot computer box thing that follows them around

He likely would've ran out of food in a couple years if he didn't sleep through most of it. So what comes first, starvation or suicide?
