After not paying attention to our cable bill for years, Im finally looking to cut cable. So my question is whats the best combination of subscriptions to do in order to get Hulu, Peacock, Paramount+, and ESPN+?

Would like to have HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax as well but might not need since we already have Netflix and Prime.

How many hours do you have to watch non-sports TV?

You are listing all options when you may not have the time to do justice to the money flowing out of your pockets.

Do you watch sports? If so, you’ll need one of YouTube TV, Sling, Fubo, or Hulu live. Will be cheaper than cable but not as much as you might think.

This. Years ago I was able to cut my cable bill in half by moving from Cox to Hulu+Live. These days, it's still cheaper but not by that much.

Another option for HBO, Showtime, etc movies/series might be to see if you have any friends running a Plex server.

Didn't even know these 3 were together now. Its $30 for ad-free, but compared to how im doing it now having Hulu & Disney with a Max subscription through YTTV, the bundle is a better way to go.

OP, do you have an Amex Platinum? You can get credits each month for the Disney Hulu bundles and also you get free Walmart+ which you can then get Paramount+ for free from. Not saying to sign up for the card for this alone, but if you have it some folks don't know about these benefits as they're a little convoluted at first.

This right here. If you watch sports cable really isn't that far off to streaming costs

If you don't, then you can mix and match based on what you are watching at the time

I got a Roku thingamjig. And I get these free apps plus I gut a Hulu subscription that comes with max. Verizon provided me with free paramount plus and Disney and recently showtime was added into the mix. Hulu has the local news and the major networks and the espns and espn + so I don’t have to miss razorback games even though sometimes I should. I also have Amazon prime because we are a member along with Netflix. I subscribed to nfl network to catch games All cheaper than direct tv plus the nfl ticket. And I didn’t have hbo or showtime with direct tv My son recommended that I switch about two years ago but was kinda of reluctant, but now, I can say I’m very happy with the switch. Hope it helps.

I just got YouTube TV about two months ago and I love it, couldn’t love it more. The only problem is they don’t carry local sports channels so I’ll have to get a couple of antennas for the pelicans.

Sports are a big reason I never really considered cutting cable as I was always worried about not being able to record games and watch later. College football season and softball/baseball are all I care about watching though when it comes to sports. Otherwise its a lot of primetime shows and some movies.

When my wife mentioned we pay $460 a month for cable, internet, and phone, I was hoping we could get everything we want for a lot less.

I have YouTube TV. The DVR is very easy to use.

I think you are still better off cutting the cable. The one benefit of something like YouTube TV is that it’s month to month. So you could ditch it in July every year and save that month.

All I have to contribute to the thread is that I used to watch sports pre-2012. After cutting cable in 2012, I haven’t missed sports one bit.

Find a friend with a direct tv subscription in the area you need nfl from that will share passwords with you. You can log into their service using the app on a roku. Bingo; you have cable and all your lsu/saints games. I traded passwords for my paramount and hbo max with my brother for his.

To be honest with you, it’s not even all that cheaper these days if you want multiple accounts for streaming services

Has anyone used the Tablo setup before? I pay $80 a month for YoutubeTV to basically just record Jeopardy(!). I really don't use it other than that. I'll occasionally need to put on a sportsball match when family is over, but I can work that out when it happens. Anyone have recs on a cheaper way to record Jeopardy via HD antenna (or other means)?

There are free streaming sites like Freevee, PlutoTV, and others.

What plan do you have to get the free paramount & showtime? I’m grandfathered into one for free Disney/Hulu/ESPN+ as long as I keep the plan. My wife’s plan doesn’t really carry many benefits, so I can change it if it cuts down my tv bill (have paramount for the kids)

There is not a one size fits all solution because that’s basically what cable was. The best thing to do is pay attention to the channels you watch. Then compare all of the live tv options and see which one covers them all (or at least most). Then check your credit cards to see where they offer credits, cell phones to see if they have free promos, any streaming services tied to other subscriptions…

If you don’t watch a lot of live tv other than sports, you may be able to pause the subscription in some of the dead months. So instead of paying $90+ a month 12 months a year, you may be able to get it for 8-10 months (a lot fewer if you don’t watch baseball) and help your savings here
