I like Vince Gilligan shows but there are quite a few episodes like this one where there isn’t much happening.
Also, remind me to never hike the Darrian Gap as I have an aversion to porcupine trees.

Good point.
I don't foresee our South American friend seeing that as a selling point. Dude is hardcore.

his speech at the river was 100% badass
quote:
“Nothing on this planet is yours. Nothing. You cannot give me anything, because all that you have is stolen. You don’t belong here.”

Caught up tonight. Carol’s brain has gone missing. Didn’t she pull out of Vegas all full of venom and spite? Now this episode she’s all wistful and aimless. I don’t like the tone shift. Doesn’t make sense. Just takes her a month to go from motivated and still angry at the world too not giving a damn? OK, I guess.
And Inigo Montoya (I’m calling him that) is committed like a felon but damn, not too bright. He’s got a map. He’s got to see there’s no driving through the Gap. He could take any boat he wanted as far up the coast as possible, but nope. Doesn’t even go to a sporting good store to stock up on gear. Basically the only thing he has is a knapsack and a freaking machete.

She did leave pissed because of the whole situation she is in and because she's naturally a hot headed person. This has been drilled into us so much that I am glad they are finally moving on from that trait. She's relaxing a bit more knowing she's free since she is in control now...her controlling things (especially with her partner) is a trait that was shown in the first couple of episodes.

I looked at this decision to show people how nuts the Darién Gap is. It has recently seen an inlflux of people using it but it is still very dangerous. The guy also doesn't seem like someone who is picking up sporting gear.
I figured it was a way for the show to reveal how dedicated this guy is to his faith...maybe? His relationship with his mom was awful so I wonder if he started to focus on religion especially mother Mary (in his car on his rearview mirror) to find some peace? He is now seeing this all as a test? I'm obviously reaching but I know Breaking bad/BCS always had meaning about certain visuals.

Someone posted like 5 days ago that he was worried that there would be a full episode dedicated to Manny getting through the Darien Gap.
Crazy that so many here were talking about the gap issue with his trip, and Gilligan kind of predicted it.
Yep this is what I am referencing in my above post. What an insane place to cross but it appears to be a path all types of the planet try...even China!

Are we ready to say this show just isn’t good yet?

It appears once Carol was provided assurance, maybe misleading assurance, that THEY will not try to infect her, she lost the drive or desire to work for a cure. Not unusual. I like how THEY broke her by isolating her for ~36 days.
She’s gotten lazy, apathetic, full of self pity. Her human spirit is broken.

No doubt showing the Darien gap was an underlying theme at least with his decision to press through. And I get the whole idea of him wanting to test himself, prove his faith , but he’s also a very resourceful guy and very prudent thinker. I don’t know what his profession is or background, but trying to tough it out like he did seemed super irrational.

At first, she was stubborn and angry beyond reason, and then she just gives up. What a great character to cheer for, right?

If this wasn’t a Vince Gilligan show I would have stopped watching at the last episode.
This last show, Ep.7, was just painful to watch.

I wonder if the hive has to put Manousos under to save his life. That may be a way around asking his permission to extract stem cells, since he wouldn't be feeling additional pain.

I know people like this in real life, just hard headed and insist on doing things the hard way. Frustrating to watch. It's a character trait, not a plot hole.

100% agree. There were a ton of visuals in the Carol scenes too, pointed out to me in the UGA Board Pluribus thread. For the visual "Easter egg" VG fans, you should pop in there to read JD's takes, even if you can't post there.

Not so much a plot hole I was just commenting on his stubbornness. I think the actual plot hole is Carol and her change of attitude. She was all hell bent on fixing everything until she wasn’t. She’s just basically giving up and decided she’s gonna go Mr. Vegas route.
And her reunion with pirate lady was a bit over the top. But I guess I’m just a guy and I don’t get it.

quote:to me the question is what are the implications of them saving him in the first place when he clearly told them not to. They said before that the lives of the immune were their own, and they said they would not interfere with life and death around them otherwise. And specifically they said they could not protect the immune from each other, and by inference, themselves. So am I wrong that they broke their rule? And if so, are their rules not really rules at all?
I wonder if the hive has to put Manousos under to save his life.
or is this just throwing a drowning man a life preserver? Even if the drowning man told them not to?

They said that he could wave to the sky if he needed something. It kind of looked to me like he gave a little wave when the helicopter was above him. Though the sun was in his face and he may have just been trying to block it out.
