I wasn't sure if we were discussing spoilers in the other thread that had been started, so figured I'd fire one up.

Who's watching Season 2? Thoughts? I've enjoyed it so far and looks like it has a ton of ways they can go with what we've seen so far.

fricking Holcomb's dirty-arse hand is in everything it seems.

Yea I'm all in on this show, been waiting on it to return. One of the most underrated shows on HBO. Like a lot of shows, I think the long break in between seasons maybe hurt it's popularity a bit. Not sure on what numbers the season premiere pulled though so maybe not.

Really really hoping Tatiana Maslaneys character comes back at some point. She was such a great character.

Season 1 was great.

Season 2 is going to be fricking awesome. Show does a great job in making me fricking hate the antagonists.

Lesbian Della…Black Paul…closeted Hamilton…Asian secretary… jaded Perry… sympathetic Mexican defendants. Only thing missing is Raymond Burr in drag

Gays and Hispanics and Asians in Southern California? That’s insane!

Interesting twist from the homemade ballistics test. I’m liking the season so far.

The prosecutor played a POS junkie in city on a hill. He’s pretty solid as the prosecutor.

I’m fully convinced Daddy McCutcheon had Brooks killed for not keeping his arse in line. Him threatening Perry is just to keep his scent off his trail.

I’m intrigued to find out who added the phone number to the evidence box for Perry to find. It looked like Della’s DA friend in the blur.

It Elder McCutcheon didn’t directly call the hit, he certainly signed off on it

Who was the woman Perry snuck in to see? Brooks' widow?

Her name is Noreen Lawson, so not his widow. I get the impression though that ol' Brooks was involved in her being in the state she's in.

In the scene before that where Perry and Della are questioning Camilla Nygaard (the rich piano teacher) she gets pretty upset by them mentioning the facility (San Haven) and then makes the comment about the "Lawson girl's" family having been through enough without them looking into it.

We know Brooks is into some strangulation kink with his interaction in the first episode with the cigarette girl from the casino. I wonder if it was something like that with this Lawson girl and she's now partially brain dead because of it.

I'm on season 2.

But it's season 2 on Pluto.

I'm working my way up from the beginning.
Great show

You don’t think there were gay people living in secret in 1930 Los Angeles?

Just my two cents - don’t really care about the various demographics because they are usually handled well or true to the period. The only one I have a problem with is Hamilton and Della both as it feels way too overbalanced with both having to live in secret to an extent but it does also frame their friendship.

But they don’t magically retcon the gambling boat as full of minorities - hell Drake had to take the employee boat out to it so it’s fAirly true to the time period etc.

Up until 1934, there was the “Pansy Craze” where you had some pretty open LGBTQ folks in drag shows in Hollywood. As well as gay films and stars.

In 1934, the Hayes Code was adopted by Hollywood pushing all of that back underground. 1935 was Freud’s “letter to an American mother” as well, asking for compassion for LGBTQ people.

So it’s a pretty notable part of that California/Hollywood time period.

This right here. They don't have Paul Drake hobnobbing with the upper crust. He's getting the dirt as a black man would back then, using others' prejudices to his benefit. He's "just another black server" or "one of those Hooverville minorities" in the eyes of everyone in power.

Very well could be the case but I think that might be a bit too obvious. He's really the only person I'm leaning towards thinking so that probably means it's not him

My random guess is that Holcomb might end up being a semi good guy this year. Maybe he flips the script and actually aids Perry in a way later in the season. Talking to his wife I get the sense that he's actually kind of sick of the work he's doing.

So they’re setting it up as the kids did kill him, but just for some money.

That’s far, far too clean.
