I enjoyed season 5, but
::::spoilers::::
I just couldn't buy that Gary would murder Ennis. Everything they showed us about Gary up to that point was a kind-hearted, rational, understanding guy. Not someone that would just snap and murder his best friend because he was going to divulge info about a train. Sure, he was in love with Terri and didn't want to see her and Bean leave, but murdering his best friend over it? Hell, why couldn't Gary just go on the frickin train with them?

I too am really enjoying this season but could understand how some would be frustrated with very little paradise action.
Agreed. The 2nd episode, showing the doctor/Graceland story was a bit draggy, but it and the next one really did a great job of building the doctor's character. That made the end of the last episode a solid emotional ride.
All that said, glad it's over and we get to move on from the Memphis area.

Don’t you know about that Ennis magic?

Gary and his bf, forgot his name, bonded over being lonely in the real world. So much so they got a group of doomsday people together who were also lonely.
The bf even picked the nurse who he was attracted to in hopes of hooking up, I don’t remember another middle aged or attractive enough male in the group. He didn’t expect her to be a lesbian and him being miserable is shown through the flashbacks. Gary latches on Terri and doesn’t want to end up alone again and after being in a bunker for so long, yeah, you go a little crazy.

I get all that, and I understand the reasoning, which is why I don't have a huge problem with it. I enjoyed the episode. I just didn't find that part very believable. Hell, maybe I'm just in denial because they made me really like Gary, and at the end of the episode they made me not like him

Gary was a pretty hardcore loner, he had almost no people skills and apparently not only kept him from finding a mate but also even a good friend. Ennis becomes his best friend. He's not familiar with close relationships so he quickly goes from admiring Terri to believing he's in love with her.
Think of it like the "puppy love" kids get into in Jr High, except that he's an adult and never had those experiences before to teach him there are different kinds of relationships and how to move on from a rejection. So he internalizes it. Yes, he's saying she's his friend to everyone, but inside he's burning for her so deeply that he would rather her stay there and not be with him romantically than he would for her to leave.
Ennis' statements put out loud Gary's biggest fear. In that moment we learn his misplaced feelings for Terri are greater than his feelings of friendship toward Ennis.
From the brief moment we saw at the end, it's very possible the others aren't being held by the train folks but that Bean ran ahead and warned them of Gary's actions and they had fled. Gary has likely been alone for a short period, enough to create enough of a fictitious tale for himself that when Xavier showed up, he didn't have to create much else new.
Terri and Bean may well be with the train people voluntarily, with her helping them to supplement their fuel with her mushroom (or whatever) concoction. If so, it may be that he sends Xavier after the train people in the hopes they will kill him and he can swoop in to fill the void in Terri's heart (maybe he doesn't know that Bean saw him, or else has gotten so lost in his romantic dream that he forgets/ignores it).

Is anybody a fan of the Netflix show Mindhunter? I kept thinking that I knew Gary’s voice from somewhere so I looked it up. Same actor that played Ed Kemper so well.
Maybe Kemper survived the apocalypse and is disguised as a mailman. All of the missing are his victims. Obviously a stupid joke. But nice to see that actor. The way he talks is soothing but also has something else behind it. I wanted to trust the character but something kept seeming off. By time we got to the final scene with Ennis I saw it coming…but mainly because I knew Xavier would be on the right track that something was wrong with Gary. Plus seeing Ennis make amends signaled a twist coming.

Wow you nailed it, I told me wife the “mailman” did a fantastic job in his roll and makes sense he played Kemper so well.

Just finished the new episode, two more to go before the second season is complete. I'm not really enjoying it like season 1, but it'll be interesting to see how they wrap it up.

Enjoying this season but the scenes outside the bunker are much more interesting to me.
But, the scene in the newest episode where Jane has the militia train guy in a headlock while simultaneously negotiating terms for a meeting might be my favorite “this show made a pretty 100lb woman an unstoppable badass” scene of all time.
Jane is the greatest assassin still alive, conniving enough to convince Sinatra that shooting her was a good idea, strong enough to manhandle men 1.5x her size and yet simple enough to be placated by a Nintendo Switch. Quite the character.

SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 6:
Did anyone else notice the email sent to the Circuit City guy in 1997 came from “Alex Q.”?
Sinatra’s “Alex” may be a way to send messages back to the past and possibly travel there.

I’m enjoying the show, huge fan of Marsden and Sterling K Brown. The slow burn - cliffhanger each episode is not usually my style, but it sort of works here. I think a slow burn throughout would bore too many people and all cliffhanger/shockers would be too ridiculous.
This past episode was probably my least favorite of the last few, but looking forward to see how they wrap up the season next 2 episodes. The end of S2E4 was gut wrenching to me.

I guess, but I thought she left herself wide open to be shot in the head. Even a half decent shooter could have shot her in the head at that range before she could pull the trigger.
I do love the show tho. I'm extremely interested to see next week's episode to see where things go.

Sure, they could have shot Jane, but they weren’t going to do that unless she opened fire first since she’s the only person the bunker sent out. I would think Jane knew they wouldn’t just point blank shoot her and was just leveraging the situation to show she was serious and wasn’t there to be taken hostage or anything.

There was no reason for her to come out aggressive. This was just one of those tv show “I’m woman, hear me roar” moments

Easily, she’s very disturbed and good at murder, she’s sent out alone into a large armed group, that had recently doubled in size with unknown intentions other than Link’s cards.
Having a quick show of force, so she could ask to speak to the card cutie leader and negotiate terms, wasn’t some manufactured girl power show. It had reasoning behind it. If Xavier or Billy had done the same thing, it would’ve been the same reasoning. In fact, Xavier has been early aggressive in prior situations as well.

She walks out alone and instantly the odds are heavily against her. She gets one of them and suddenly the odds are a little better for her because they don’t want to see one of their people die.

The training scenes for her were 100% black widow in avengers.

She’s flown under everyone’s radar by being meek and mild. It just doesn’t fit with the character
