Sean Penn is a potato with no sense of humor and they've given that guy an Oscar on three separate occasions. That's the same amount of Oscars they've given Daniel Day-Lewis and Jack Nicholson.

That's incredible to think about. I guess he does that one facial expression better than anyone else can.

Penn really used to be a phenomenal actor. In the right part I think he still can be. His problem of late is a sort of Ruffalo problem. If he doesn't think he likes the kind of person IRL that he's supposed to be playing then he's lost the ability to play them as a real three dimensional person instead of an object of contempt.

He never would have been a success if he approached his profession like this decades ago. Imagine him just playing Matthew Poncelot as a violent sociopath, Spicoli as mean spirited, or a cop in Colors without the complexity he allowed.

He's become a lesser actor as his separation from the types of people who are portrayed became more extreme

I just don't get why Hollywood wants to put him in literally everything. He's the male Zendaya.

I have nothing against him. I just don't get it.

Hollywood is a lot like sports in that people will overlook what an absolute assbag you are if you're talented enough. Whether Hollywood feels he's that talented will determine if he keeps getting put in everything or ends up Katherine Heigl'ing his career.

It’s not quite that but movie studios having major campaigns to win Oscars is nothing new. It’s not a cheap process. Studios often don’t even put up their movies for Oscars because Oscar campaigns can be hundreds of thousands of dollars at least. And that may sound more nefarious than it actually is. A part of it is they are just sending out the movie for people to even watch.

Boy, nice to know these awards have nothing to do with performances but who brown noses the voters enough. What a joke
They get tired of smelling their own farts and need an outsider to confirm they got some of that high end sweet fart gas.
