Bad writing?

It's a comedy from the creator of Weeds and based on the experiences of Piper Kerman, who actually spent 15 months in prison.

She is feared because if you don't respect her, you'll get a damn blood tampon in your breakfast sandwich.

Not to mention connections to the Russian Mob. I wouldn't be fricking with her either.

but the other one is the guard that infuriates me. Clean-cut white guy, ex-military.....and he falls for a fat puerto rican convict?? It is completely inconceivable.

Why? Because she's "beneath" him?

It didn't bother me.

you know the series is based on the memoirs of a chick named piper who went to minimum security prison right?

about the book:

quote:

Relying on the kindness of strangers during her year's stint at the minimum security correctional facility in Danbury, Conn., Kerman, now a nonprofit communications executive, found that federal prison wasn't all that bad. In fact, she made good friends doing her time among the other women, many street-hardened drug users with little education and facing much longer sentences than Kerman's original 15 months. Convicted of drug smuggling and money laundering in 2003 for a scheme she got tangled up in 10 years earlier when she had just graduated from Smith College, Kerman, at 34, was a self-surrender at the prison: quickly she had to learn the endless rules, like frequent humiliating strip searches and head counts; navigate relationships with the other campers and unnerving guards; and concoct ways to fill the endless days by working as an electrician and running on the track. She was not a typical prisoner, as she was white, blue-eyed, and blonde (nicknamed the All-American Girl), well educated, and the lucky recipient of literature daily from her fiancé, Larry, and family and friends. Kerman's account radiates warmly from her skillful depiction of the personalities she befriended in prison, such as the Russian gangster's wife who ruled the kitchen; Pop, the Spanish mami; lovelorn lesbians like Crazy Eyes; and the aged pacifist, Sister Platte. Kerman's ordeal indeed proved life altering

Solid 1st Season

I am pleasantly surprised by the strong characters and acting in the BITNO.

My pick for Best Performance though has to be Tiffany "Pennsatucky" Doggett, being portrayed by Taryn Manning

Great show, seen most of the episodes, it does a good job with real experiences and humor.

It is like, the easiest prison ever though, they all get so much alone time away from guards in public areas

Finished season 1 last night, what a great show

Wasn't a big fan of the guard-inmate romance sideplot, although having Mendez fall in love with her was a good twist Don't really care for the transgendered chick either. Seriously, your wife stays with you through all that shite and you get mad when when she wants to get some strange? From a pastor no less? No doubt he should have been born a woman.

Severely underrated character here:

Hope we get some more backstory on her and Marello. I know we got a little bit about Marello, but I want to know what got her landed in prison.

Did anyone else wonder why the transgendered prisoner was sent to a female prison?
