EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures is not only growing its slate of its Universe of Marvel Characters but is building on the female characters at the center of it, and looks to have landed one of the sought female directors in Hollywood. Sources tell Deadline that Olivia Wilde has closed a deal to direct and develop a secret Marvel film project revolving around a female character in the universe. While not confirmed, it is expected that the story will be centered on Spider-Woman.
Sony had no comment.
The film will be penned by Wilde and her writing partner Katie Silberman with Amy Pascal producing. Rachel O’Connor will exec produce.

Aside from Wonder Woman, can you name me one released in the last five years that isn't? Patty Jenkins, at least in 2017, celebrated Wonder Woman's femininity instead of trying to make her more masculine. We'll see what she does with Wonder Woman 1984.

Captain Marvel wasn't woke if that's what you're saying. Aside from those two films there really hasn't been any female fronted superhero films. Unless you count the CW shows but then again most of what CW has is trash anyway
Do you no understand what woke means? It sure sounds like you think just because the lead isn't some white dude it means it's woke

Aside from Captain Marvel, can you name me one released in the last 5 years that is? I mean, it’s not like we’ve had some huge run on female-centered superhero movies. I guess if you want to count Harley Quinn as a superhero, Birds of Prey could fit the billing. But aside from that, I’m genuinely coming up blank.
Any Man and the Wasp could count I guess? But I definitely didn’t see much any agenda there.

As far as female superhero films go? There have only been three that have come out. Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, and Birds of Prey. Two of the three are definitely woke. Had Black Widow come out on time I'm pretty sure it would have been three out of four. And then you have non-superhero female-centric films like Ghostbusters (2016), Ocean's 8, and the newest Charlie's Angels film.

We'll have to see how Wilde approaches it, but I really enjoyed Booksmart.

If you go full on Spider-Gwen than maybe. She's a good character and she had a big part in the animated Spider-verse movie.
The problem, and it is a big one, is that what makes that character work is she is in a very alternate universe. Just like Spider-Girl, or May "Mayday" Parker, who had a fantastic series with her as the daughter of a retired Peter Parker.
They lose the pop off their fastball if there is a Spider-Man they are sharing screen time with unless its a multiverse crossover.

What is your definition of woke? Damn your life must be miserable

Would be nice if we could wait to hear about the actual plans and casting before flipping the Hate or Champion switch.

By the way...Grace Randolph is reporting that the movie in question is Spider-Woman.
