So if rust went to jail and was convicted for the type of murder committed you really think he'd get just 10 or 15 years?
The hell?
I don't believe for a second that he ever went to jail, because the whole idea of him being the killer is stupid.

Wow.... some of you are still stuck on the "Rust is in jail" theory. C'mon y'all.
Posted on 1/16/14 at 9:13 am to JBeam
do people actually believe Rust is in jail.
beer and cigs??????? oh and not mention the detective walks to his desk and grabs a file. yes they would bring someone who is in prison to the State police office and interview him.
come on people

Awesome first episode.
Extremely well casted and the Louisiana bit isn't cheesey or overdone. No stupid accents.
Woody is money per usual and for I think the third time ever I really like Mathew M's performance.
Start asking the right fricking questions
Eta:
He isn't in jail. They had to seal the case for political reasons. Obviously didn't have the right killer. His alcoholism mixed with his style, and unwillingness to cooperate with the politicians means he got burnt that's why he looks like a mess

quote:Incorrect, back in the 80's baseball players all received full scholarships, because it was before title IX. Obviously the writers did their homework
lsu baseball only gave out 11.8 scholarships so lets assume the guy got half a scholarship. back in 1980 the average lsu tuition was 3k a semester. so clearly the fontenots needed to be at least middle class....oh my god who the frick cares

I am guessing the killer has something to do with the mega christian politician we saw in the police station...
If I had to guess, they arrest someone in 95 they believe to be the killer... fast forward to 02 and something happens which leads Rust to believe this isn't true... fight breaks out between Rust/Marty, they split... fast forward to present day and here we are.

That's also completely wrong. In 1995 in state tuition was less than $1500 a semester.

so yall do realize that was a sarcastic post making fun of the dude nitpicking the fontenots social status and the made up stats of that joke are completely inconsequential right??
oh guess not.

I didn't go back and re-read but I thought that post was the one that was serious and started all of us on the sarcastic path.

He's really good. He is nailing small town detective.
I can't wait for Sunday.

quote:I do realize that. I am just pointing out that those nitpickers are actually wrong and the writers are correct. In the '80s every single Lsu baseball player would have had a full ride, due to title ix. So all the sophisticated tv watchers on here that thought they knew so much were flat out wrong

Simmons and Greenwald were both ripping on True Detective on todays podcast.
It has otherwise gotten overwhelmingly positive reviews.

I agreed with the point they made about Josh Lucas as Marty and either Harrelson or MM as Rusty. I dont buy Harrelson as Marty at all. I do not agree with their premise that it was too slow.
The re-watch is better if you turn on subtitles so you can catch the mumbled pieces of dialogue

Agreed, Subtitles do help.
I don't see why anyone would be upset with the pace of this show so far.

I thought the pace was fine, but I'd bet that it picks up significantly over the next few episodes. Lot of the first episode was spent on character development, i.e. dinner scene, the nihilist MM scene in the car, etc. I'd guess that we get more and more actual case material as we go on, but I'm hoping that the show focuses on the characters and their relationship, using the case as a narrative tool
