I guess so. Not sure that they would arrest the wrong person after 7 years of chasing them tho... which is what most people are speculating is the cause of the rift between WH/MM

Yeah I don't see it either. They may be trying to draw you towards that conclusion with his behavior but that'd be far too "obvious".
Now I DO think the detectives interviewing him may think he has some kind of connection to the murder(s). Or that he knows they nabbed the wrong guy originally and they're checking to see how "stable" he is.
Time to start asking the right fricking questions.

I think they did for a second. But, Rust flipped the situation right before saying "start asking the right questions"

We are on the same page after the rewatch.

Not sure if anyone brought it up but when they asked the old Cajun codger where danny fontenot lived, he had a long pause. During the pause, rust walked toward that direction and was facing where the old man would eventually point. Clue it misdirection?

Well thats just speculation and that could still be true if it took 7 years. A 7 year investigation could make some people desperate to make an arrest

It didn't take 7 years to catch the killer.
From the "ask the right fricking questions scene"-
Detective - "My question is..."
Rust - "How could it be him? If we already caught him in '95? How indeed detectives?"
Detective - "I figured you'd be the one to know."
Rust - "Then start asking the right fricking questions."

Highly doubt they fingered Rust.
He wouldn't have said "we" captured him in 95.
He also obviously has a drinking problem. That wouldn't be an issue. There's not way he'd ever get out of jail.....and he would more than likely have received the death penalty. Not sure how long folks stay on death row, but 15 or so years seems like a lot? Maybe not.

I get this and it makes perfect sense but I can't figure out how they would remain partners for another 7 years if the above were true...

some people need to start paying attention. you obviously werent if you ask questions like that.

So if rust went to jail and was convicted for the type of murder committed you really think he'd get just 10 or 15 years?
He clearly isn't in jail at the time. I don't think people in jail have access to beer or have days off.
He and the other guy were partners from 95-02 and it is clearly stated that they got the guy in 95.
