If he was FBI, sure. State Police, not so much.
I think SFP is taking it a little overboard, but I don't disagree with him.
Like I said earlier, I know several whack jobs that are just so good at what they do people deal with it.
For example, look at the show Hannibal, would that guy be allowed to roam freely in real life much less carry a gun. He is the best in the business and people deal with his fricked upness.

To me it seemed like people realized he was too smart to be put in with the grunts, but he would never make a position of actual authority.
exactly the way I see it.

It is certainly possible he only manifests it when he is open with someone, after all before he started talking Hart had begged him to tell him anything. So I doubt he is walking around telling strangers/superiors his "views".

I was under the impression this was a TV show.

Probably. Like I said its not a huge issue for me. Just an observation.

Oh good lord. In any case, thanks for the clarification.

Plus it didn't seem like they were exactly shuffling him off to great high profile places. He said he was in Alaska before.

No one was assigning him locations. He was changing jobs on his own.

He said he grew up in Alaska.

Was he doing narcotics work in Houston? I'm sure they said it and I just missed it but why did he leave Houston?

If he grew up in Alaska then the thick natural texan accent could itself even be a ruse/coping issue/sign of psychological problems.

I don't think that was explained fully. May be revealed in subsequent episodes.

I'm pretty sure he was doing the narcotics work in Houston. Don't think they said why he left, though I'm guessing the death of his daughter and subsequent divorce.

Did anybody get a twin peaks vibe? I totally felt the intentional creepiness of the whole hour.

May have left due to marital problems and the death of his daughter.

Ah my bad...what I get for tuning in and out.

My kids were in and out of the room during the entire episode so I really need to rewatch. Did they say how his daughter died?

All I remember is that she was dead, and that the day would have been her birthday.

I kept thinking of the movie Fallen the entire time, even though I hope they do not go the supernatural route.
