Obviously mistakes are made later, but its not because Stringer isn't cut out for the job. He just had bigger plans than being a drug dealer his entire life.
When he's committed to the street, he isn't.
I meant when he started to think he could run both without it catching up to him.
He got served in multiple instances. In ways that wouldn't have ever happened to Barksdale or Marlow.
But Barksdale and Marlow are also the type that would get caught with guns by the police, Stringer, def not.

Bodie to De'Angelo: "If you was me, you'd still be in there.." I love Bodie so much already. Love that he recognizes the bullshite and doesn't blindly buy into things like Poot and Wallace do. Also loves that he calls out Dee on his bullshite too, because what he said right there is 100% truth.
The first go round, I' didn't think much of Bodie in season 1, except for not liking him for something later on in the season. i found it odd that i started to like him in later seasons. so i've been paying more attention to him early on rewatch and he is easily my favorite Barksdale member. Stuff like "If you was me, you'd still be in there" is awesome. I don't think he's buying D's story about killing the "shorty" while Poot and Wallace are in awe.

We can wait until later to get into more detail on this, but I just wanted to respond to this since I didn't get a chance to earlier. And I wanted to say that I stand by dee and String not being too similar.

Wait that wasn't D? Can't believe I missed that shite...
Bodie was pretty damn sharp but also had a lot of D in him as we see later on.
You could tell he'd do what it took because of orders but even when he and poot had to do their thing, you could tell Bodie had way more doubts than poot. Poot would have done it regardless.

i disagree with this, but we can discuss when it comes up i a few episodes.

Man, this page is getting into some spoiler arse shite. And it isn't labeled.
We need to do better protecting first-time watchers...as much as we can at least.

OK, i edited, but at least 1 first time watcher said he was way ahead of the pace so i think he's passed what i was referring to
Any way, D tells Wallace, Poot and Bodie he killed a girl, I don't think Bodie believes him.

Have we discussed how much of a smokeshow McNulty's ex-wife is? She is in the "would eat corn out of her shite" territory.

Does anyone think Dee's story sound a lil bit exaggerated?? With the tap tap tap and she was fine as frick..
Wallace and poot...teen-age mindset..did you frick her lol

No but she is hot and bitchy. One of those chicks where someone tired of her shite. But Jimmy probably made her that way lol

Might drive people off if posters are discussing shite so far ahead.

Whoever said String and Dee are alike is pretty spot on.
I've gotta roll with Cokes and Co. on this one in that they're really not as much alike as one would interpret on the surface.
I think Stinger and Dee's conversation about cutting the dope to make it weaker/to sell more is a good indication of that in Episode 3. While both are successful at what they do at this juncture, Stringer is cold and calculated (we really see this in later episodes in things that go down). Yeah, he's more "business" and may not want the bodies involved, but if it happens it happens. Like when they're discussing the dope fiends and their reaction to the "cut" product. Stringer doesn't give a shite because his "business" is making money. Dee on the other hand is much softer on the inside and sees those dope fiends as people. Look at how shook he got in Episode 2 over the kids of the murdered witness. He wants to be successful (and obviously is given the money he pulls in that scene from the low rises) BUT you can tell from even the first two episodes that he doesn't like the violence of the game. He has a very Utopian view of how the game could be run. Stringer may not want the violence, but it's because he doesn't want the heat that the bodies bring not because he has any kind of "heart" if that makes sense. Similar intentions but two totally different beasts.
If I relate Dee to anyone, it's Major Colvin we see in Season 3 and the things he does (I won't go further than that for sake of spoilers, but most of the rewatchers know about "Hamsterdam"). I'll bookmark and get back to the comparison when we get to that watch point down the road.

Thanks for starting this thread and doing a wonderful job running it. Can you put the most recent episode watched in the title along with the new discussion page to help us keep track?

I tried to say this earlier but didn’t do a great job. Dee’s utopian view is his weakness where we are in the show right now. This utopian view sometimes blinds his actions and judgement as we see when ends up sharing with the police, talking business in the car, asking too many questions, and sometimes being in the wrong place at the right time. And other character’s notice this (again one of the main themes of this show is someone is always watching whether its Bodie, Stringer, Avon, Wee Bay) and from their perspective see it as a weakness.
Avon of course is blinded by family, but he also sees Dee’s potential as he “grows” in the game. Won’t say more, but as the season progresses we will Dee (and other characters) have to deal with how their actions contract what they think the world should be like, vs what is it.
There is a great quote later on the show from Poot where he talks about whats going on in the world. So want to say it but will stop here!
