Negan was the best part of the episode. Hands down.

But..his introduction and the death of a main character, were made less of, because of the "mystery decision".

Scene should have ended with him doing that to someone in front of everyone while they all had to be helpless. Then him looking into Ricks eyes..and Rick not being able to look him back.

So he like..takes bloody Lucille, puts it under his chin and makes him. Etc

They do not misdirect cinematographically though. Remember the Glenn dumpster scene? It was pretty clear to me that he was not being actively eaten in that cliffhanger. I definitely thought it was the other dude that landed on him getting eaten, I just thought someone else would've lit the building on fire or something else miraculously distracting the walkers instead of him crawling under the dumpster. Merle Dixon handcuffed on the roof near a saw....

Until you remember the writers like to use misdirection and drop the ball.

If all you got to say against my points is an opinion on writers dropping the ball with metaphors then I don't think you've been paying attention, the title of the show itself is a frickin metaphor.

The title of the comic is a metaphor.

The show it's self has been a rotating door of showrunners and ideas. It did look like glenn was being eaten at first. Then taking his name out of the credits..come on.

They even admitted to that.

You can like the episode and their decision, IMO it was just..didn't reach the potential it could have, had they just stuck to basics.

The scene where Negan asks if Rick understands about giving Negan half their shite and the entire group is looking at Rick and he doesn't say a word was the moment I knew Rick was broken. It was so damn good and so tense

I watched it again last night. The build up of the roadblocks with each one being increasingly intimidating- the growing fear and hopelessness of Rick and his group- the utter terror when the lights come on in the woods- and then Negans menacing demeaner and speech and brutal beating- all made for a truly haunting episode. Regardless of the cliffhanger angle- I was equally affected the second time viewing it. More than any other TWD episode. I guess I put myself in the situation of being completely helpless and hopeless in the face of such cold heartless brutality. Terrifying.

As soon as he told Trevor "we can talk about this", I knew he was defeated. It was everything he could probably not to beg.

The group is definitely going to experience a divorce. I doubt only one person gets it. Maybe not with the bat, but others are going to have their lives changed

Seeing the look of complete disbelief, shock, and hopelessness on Rick's face was very powerful. Kudos to Andrew Lincoln.

I'm really looking forward to the new season now more than ever. Rick learned he isn't "the man" anymore.

This. He sold it well. I'm still in TWD. I don't care about the ending as a problem. I didn't prefer it, but I understand why they would want to do it. What i don't understand is why they don't think ending the show with a completely bloody and broken corpse wasn't as good.

Yeah the entire episode was so well done, just watching Rick's cockiness turn into disbelief and then melt away into being a broken man was really terrifying. And seeing just how big the Saviors are after each road block was creepy as hell. That whistling will haunt me for a while too. Needs to be made into a ringtone actually

Of course it was all destroyed by that fricking cliffhanger

Totally agree. This group isn't going to be able to flip a switch and get their "swag" back. This is a rock-bottom moment. Will be interesting to see how they adapt to "working" for Negan and begin to even believe they can be back "on top" again.

Eh, even if they didn't fight they would still be working for Negan and possibly still with a dead member

Yeah, but having the knowledge that the boss knows you killed a lot of his men doesn't help. Maybe Morgan and Carol make some good contacts where they are.

I can't say I watch the credits so I guess that part escaped me. I did see Nicholas fall onto Glenn and thought they were eating Nick first, and would probably get to Glenn afterwards without some miracle. A lot of other people saw this too.

I must have missed the part where the show stopped being a metaphor because they touch on different ideas. I guess I don't see how the comic title is a metaphor but the TV title that is the same story minus a few adaptations to increase the longevity/viability of a TV.

As far as them admitting they made it look like glenn was dead? lolno. Talking Dead wouldn't even put him as an "in memoriam" pretty much a giveaway he was still kicking.

I do agree that the finale did not live up to potential. I do not defend the cliffhanger. I do not think the show writers are as misleading as many make them out to be, and i do think they drop tons of hints you wouldn't realize until some hindsight is granted.

frick the writers, I hope they die soon. There's foreshadowing for almost every character to get their head bashed in, of course it will be easily explainable in hindsight. Seriously frick their shitty writing on this shitty arse show. I think more compelling shite happens on Days of our Lives.

..so it wasn't their intention to make it look like glenn got got? I'm not a talking dead fan.

There is a ton of foreshadowing, but I think they pretty much stay within the range on what is actually shown on TV.

As far as the Glenn dumpster scene, look at it again. It either seemed that they are eating something on top of him (I think misdirection came from how easy it may be to go OH SHITE Glenn is dead, and forget about Nick falling on him because Glenn is/was a fan favorite and Nick was pretty much just a boner), or ripping his intestines out of his rib cage..... It was a cop out situation, but I did not see him being eaten. If the intent on TV was to kill Glenn I thought it was pretty odd that they weren't eating his face/neck and whatnot like many of the deaths they do show.

That angle makes it seem like they are ripping his intestines from he's sternum. Which is notably not where intestines are located.
