I thought a great ending would be for Negan to make Rick choose who dies. Obviously, Rick would probably offer himself up for the chopping block, but Negan says something like, "That's not how this works. If you don't give me a name in X seconds, I'll kill your son." Then play out the rest of the scene how they see fit

That's exactly how I thought it was going to happen

Or just show him killing whoever and just walking back into the trailer. Anything would be better than the way they handled it.

I'm far from a WD fanboy, but I don't think that going one full season without killing off a main character means it's jumping the shark.

Here are the first two definitions of "jump the shark" on a Google search:
quote:

(Of a television series or movie) Reach a point at which far-fetched events are included merely for the sake of novelty, indicative of a decline in quality.

Perfect description of Glenn's death scene.
quote:

"Jumping the shark" is an idiom popularized by Jon Hein that was used to describe the moment in the evolution of a television show when it begins a decline in quality, signaled by a particular scene, episode, or aspect of a show in which the writers use some type of gimmick in an attempt to keep viewers' interest, which is taken as a sign of desperation.

Hard to better summarize this episode than that.

Has anyone mentioned the terribly cheesy blood effects on the screen in the last scene? They did that same campy crap with Daryl at the end of the second to last episode. Gimple is awful.

And no matter who Rick chose, it would lead to at least one person in the group hating him at the start of next season.

Would weaken their group and strengthen Negan's.

I'd think before he did someone like Abe or Eugene would offer themselves and give Rick their approval for him to do so. He'd just nod and it's off his hands

yeah I did not like it at all. I think the first road block they encountered they could have easily steam rolled but for whatever reason they backed out.

If they cop out and kill someone like Aaron I will be very disappointed.

Amazing. I thought it was one of the best. Incredible intensity and build up of total hopelessness. You could literally feel Ricks desperation building and his arrogance draining away with each increasing road block. It was palpable.
They were literally sheep led to the slaughter. The reveal of just how powerful and bloodthirsty Negan and the Saviors are was incredible.

Agreed. When I read some of the thoughts and complaints on here I think TWD is not what you keep wanting it to be. I thoroughly enjoy it for what it is. Perhaps some folks should quit trying to change it and go find a show you actually enjoy.

It amazes me. I thought this was one of the best seasons they have had. Yet some complain about everything...watch something else. They call the show dumb but watching a show you think sucks is retarded.

This is my main issue with the ending last night. Walking Dead doesn't need ratings ploys to draw viewers. Next season's premier would have drawn large numbers regardless.

it did nothing but alienate and piss off your fan base....and they knew it would, hence there "this episode will melt the internet" comments, it was a giant middle finger to the viewers and they knew it would be.

Continue to bite the hand that feeds you guys.

If I wrote the show and absolutely felt I needed a cliffhanger I would have done it differently.

I would have let it be known who Negan picked to "kill" but I wouldn't have shown anything but the first contact of Lucille to the person picked.

The audience would have been left with "is that person alive or dead" rather than wondering who died.

Now, just killing said person would have been the best option mind you. But, if a cliffhanging had to be done...

Agree with all of this except the cliffhanger killed all momentum they had built the entire episode. I mean for frick's sake, AMC has been pumping promos all week that someone is going to die at the hands of Negan. You can't do that shite and then pull some cop out cliffhanger bullshite. Had someone major died by Lucille last night for the audience to see, the episode would've been an 11/10 imo

It's either Rick or Aaron.

Rick, because he's the leader. And he talked about Carl before doing it.

It could also be Aaron because he was the only one that went on the trip that didn't belong in that group.

I did too up until this point. Cliffhangers are lame. I'm fine with it if you have like a week in between the next show. But 6 months just to wait and see who he killed is lame. I almost wanna spoil it for myself.

haven't watched the finale yet but dreading it knowing that the ending is as predicted. It's like they ripped off GoT and Jon Snow.
