Practice. When I was a kid, my best friend would grab snakes behind the head without a second thought. Most of the time, he didn't know exactly what they were until after he grabbed them and it wasn't rare for him to grab a copperhead without a second thought. I always thought he was nuts, but he just had been doing it his entire life starting with garter snakes and others he knew weren't poisonous. TWD crew has killed hundreds of zombies and know what they are doing. It's second nature at this point.

Your friend is fricking idiot. As are these people. Its all risk no reward. You dont need to grab em to stab em. Why even introduce that risk?

It's all a bunch of BS, too. Anyone who has actually had to cut through bone knows it isn't nearly that easy. And, even if it goes through, you'll be lucky to get it back out quickly.

I didn't say he wasn't, but he never got bitten all the same.

Ever tried to hit a moving target? Was it easier or harder to hit that the one that wasn't moving? If they are just swinging the knife around it would be easier to miss the target or lose their knife. By holding them in place it is stab and retract before the body is on the ground. The zombies limbs have fallen off before. We just saw the skin rip from the body of a zombie as they tried to grab one the other week. The head seems to be the last area of decomposition, so it's the safest place to stab then push/pull to move onto the next. With hoardes, it's all about accuracy and quickness.
As for it not being easy to cut through bone, this is true in real life. But this is TV and a show about zombies. They say they are a little mushy from slowly decomposing.

If you think target stability is higher on the priority list than not putting your hand 1 inch from a death clamp full of poison then i dont know what to tell you.
These guys do all these preventative practices and then do that .

They're decaying and it's been over 2 years in ZA time. Bone density would be shite at this point.

Walk around with walker blood and guts on them. Um, that shite will literally kill you if you have an open cut or it gets in your mouth. These people dont care AT ALL>
I'm not sure, everyone is already infected. Its not like you would die instantly. Sure cuts can get infected if not taken care of, but I don't see how getting some blood and guts on you is going to kill you.
I don't really get people like you. Its a fictional show made solely for entertainment. I think if people had more of this mindset watching TV shows and movies, they could enjoy them more and not nit pick at it. It's not real.

It doesn't. They always come back with blood all over them after a zombie fight. Everyone is infected and you turn when you die.

I can get over all the suspend disbelief issues with this show except for the lack of new cases. Someone got sick initially. It had to spread by some means other than a bite.

Yeah I just read some posts bitching. Its like you said a few posts up, umm the bodies are decaying. And even if they weren't, it is fiction. Who cares how easily they can stab through a skull.

If you have followed the series at all, then you should know that everyone is infected. You don't turn because you were bit, you turn because you are dead. They don't go into how it started and never will. Its all about after.

I get what you are saying, but it's just a show and I'm only giving my reasoning as to looking past the grab technique. Instead of looking for things that make it unbelievable, I latch on to the things that makes sense and it makes it more enjoyable for me. In all actuality, it probably gives the crew a chance to shift the camera to switch to a dummy zombie without us noticing.
Watch this Zombie Kill. Notice the camera switch. Yes Darryl's arm comes way to close to the zombies mouth, but it allows them time to switch the actor with a dummy. Not that bif of a deal IMO.

They are all infected. It would only take one person dying and coming back a zombie to bite an unsuspecting person. They turn then bite a few others. Next thing you know, 1 has become 100, 100 becomes 1000, etc.

Yeah that's a good point. I'm just trying to think of something different considering they didn't show him. I don't know why glen would let him live
So glennn killed him with a few punches then said help me get him in the back? Why would they bring him if they had killed him? What show have you been watching?

And you don't have to be bitten to turn. As we saw that at the prison. People die daily as it is.

Absolutely why they do it. However, I wouldnt get anywhere near the mouth IRL. Also, i wouldnt let that shite touch me for a long time just as i would clean AIDS infected blood off of me immediately.

A couple of thing that people in TWD do that I would NEVER do if I were in the situation.
1)Almost every time they kill a walker hand-to-hand they grab the walker by the head or neck with a bare hand and then stab it. Who in their right mind is going to voluntarily put their flesh that close to a walker's mouth?
As others have said, it's a television show so it requires some suspension of disbelief.
In reality, I don't think they'd fight zombies at all the way they do. They'd use firearms from a distance to the maximum extent they could and if and when ammo could not be resupplied, they use other distance weapons - bows, air propelled weapons (heck, at this stage, a pump pellet gun pellet to the head might take out some of the more decrepit zombies), javelins, slings, etc.
When they had to go hand to hand, I'd have to think they'd use things like body armor a heck of a lot more and things like thrusting spears, long swords, axes (they do use those last two some) and perhaps less of daggers or small knives that make you get really close to use.
And I further think they'd develop some sort of compact fighting formation to prevent zombies from getting in among them (I'm surprised we haven't see any friendly fire type incidents yet - at least that I remember). Heck, they could probably do shield walls or phalanxes with those plastic shields that crowd control police/soldiers use.
But we just have to accept that in this world they fight zombies the way they do - kind of willy nilly.

Of course not. They could roll up with a few people in the bed of a jacked up 4WD they found in redneckville, GA and spear zombies all day long without fear of them getting up to you. That would be boring TV though.
As we've seen, the real danger should be other people, not zombies.

I can tell by reading everyone's comments that none of you have ever killed a zombie. Y'all don't know shite about real zombie killing.
